VL Turbo A8 Motor

Im interested in purchasing a vl turbo motor for a future project, to start of with im looking specificaly for an original a8 in stock condition, I will then decide power figures and get it built/rebuilt...

Ive done some searching and some reading, but im wondering if anyone can throw up some links or give some reading info...

Firstly i wanna know exactly how a vl turbo motor works runs etc etc, i also wanna know a list of parts that ill need on the motor to suit my project, and also a list of things to check on the motor...

From what ive read so far i need to check...

-Brown coloured top injectors (which should be original turbo ones)
-Check the computer Turbo Man - 52 or 3TM (the gear box i have is MX7)
Turbo Auto - 53 or 3TA
What i also wanna know with this is, does it make a difference for auto or manual or can it be tuned to suit?
-Compression Test it
-Shaft Play in the turbo

Just to add ive only done some small amount of research so im learning here be patient please

look at engine number near engine mount not the one on exhaust side as this will have either A6 or A8 at the end of it..

also goto ebay type in vl go newly listed there is a a8 block there for sale on first or 2nd page

buy a turbo block as nackers has said.... generally its the whole motor with the head as well,,,,(figure of speech)
check.... we dont know what u mean...
if its a turbo block well it depends on the power figures your looking at...
pull it apart clean it new bearings,welch plugs, Hone it new piston rings, gaskets, waterpump, VRS kit for the head, new head gasket and head bolts or Studs, etc etc,,,,

Crack test the head
Oil Condition whats in it/crap in the sump
turbo wheels for damage and housing damage from wheels hitting(shaft play)
will think of more

Turbo ECU auto trans 3TA can run both Manual and Auto Box
Manual ECU 3TM can only run Manual not auto

basically the km's the old girl has done... if it has been boosted high, as well as what u have stated and what i have stated...
if your rebuilding it i would not be really so picky as u will be fixing imperfections on the rebuild.

the head would suit you its bout 300kms old with wade cam etc
