    Cool vl project :-P

hey guys check out my vl. at the moment it is my daily drive but not too sure but may be getting my liscense suspended for 3 months soon...
anyway basically i have got it back to stock and tidyed it up really nice, fixed pretty much all leaks: oil, water, powersteering etc. also new distributor cap, leads, plugs, oil, filter, fuel filter, timing belt, and water pump.

since that i have painted the rocker cover and replaced the old plastic intake pipes with alloy ones and a pod filter. apart from that the car is fully stock.

being still on green p's i cant have a turbo yet but looking to slam a bit more power out of it.. if my lisecense does get suspended i will be dropping the engine out but otherwise for now i would prefer not to.

    suggestions please

nice mate, you can do things like extractors and advancing the cam timing and k&n filter if you want cheap mods.
This is good site to watch.I found it informative as I have been researching a lot lately on such matters such as you talk about.

Pop out the little panel in the centre, undo the screw. Then pull like hell. (i think)

theres a bit more to it than that. basically,
-turn engine over to see mark on crank at the top.
-use ball point pen / white marker to mark the belt above where the dot is.
    -loosen timing belt tensioner
-move the cam so that the mark on the belt is 1 tooth anti clockwise of the dot on the cam (you can go two teeth but its a bit harder to get your ignition timing right)
    - tighten timing belt tensioner
-loosen nut on distributor for advancing/retarding it but do not completely remove it.
-twist distributor anticlockwise as far as it will go. and tighten above nut.
    - check with timing gun and adjust as necessary.

note that it may be a lot easier to remove the fan and belts and cowling but i'm sure you can figure out how to do that or organise someone to help you.

You should put extractors on her. The standard manifold with the heat shield on normally breaks the studs that go into the head so you will get an exhaust leak. The broken studs can be a real pain to get out because it is hard to get a drill in there to drill them out. You will notice a bit more power too.

go to any ally or stainless stell joint that has piping.. u can buy mandrel bent pipe in all sorts of degree bends and straight..
Silicone joiners arnt cheap either, so your call what u wanna do
    buy bent pipe
or buy straight pipe and angled joiners

If i were you, i'd try and find myself an RB20 or RB25 DOHC motor do that up. As soon as your ready to get yourself your fulll open license and expererience behind the wheel before you start looking at power. I don't want to tell a life story here but i was really lucky my parents own a panel beating and spray painting shop and my first car was a 11 sec RX4 13 B, absolutely unreal to drive still got it today and done a lot more work to it. Now is twin turbo and fastest time cross quarter mile was 9.01 sec, and stilll with full streeet rego. I don't want to sound like a parent but before you start thinking about HP. Beleive me when i as a kid all i wanted to do was go fast, and there be a lot more ppl on here that have been on my situation, but a 11 sec street car is way to fast and quick for the inexperienced.

sec street car is way to fast for a learner
