Hey guys i am planning on converting my rb30e n/a to a rb30et using all standard gear and i just need your suggestions and input.
With intercooler piping would 2.5 or 3 inch be better or would 3 inch be to big and cause some lag ?
Can i run vl turbo injectors with a n/a ecu or am i better off tricking the ecu somehow into thinking its a
turbo ecu ?
Would running standard injectors and ecu on 10psi cause damage ?
Whats the most boost i can expect from a standard T3 or T3 highflow ?
With the n/a auto how long do you reckon it could last with a big transmission cooler and regular servicing ? would a shiftkit f**k it quicker with the turbo setup ?
And final question is will i need to get a engineers or emissions test done in order to stay legit or will it already be legit since they came out factory optioned ? Whats the best way to make it legit ?
Sorry for all the questions.
2.5 will be fine fo cooler piping 3" would be more suited for high boost. Each to their own..
As for the Injectors u will need Turbo ECU to run turbo injectors to spec as the pulse rate is larger...u can run the turbo injectors with NA ecu but they will only run as NA injectors as it does not adjust the pulse rate...
Na injectors and ECU max out at approx 7 psi if u run 10 u will lean out your mix too much and melt something...+ high compression setup head gasket could be a problem. but i have heard some have lasted approx 15 psi..
i have been running my NA Auto box since my convert and so far all is well, and i have not been light on it. also running a trans cooler(which is built in to the radiator) aftermarket would be better, Depends on the overall condition of the box.
Emissions well,, basically make it a vlt setup to pass as u have stated u are using all the standard gear..making sure your not running oil catch cans and other subsystems
Thanks for that mate.
I thought the ecu and vlt injectors would need to match but its so hard to find a ecu these days and there is a way to trick the ecu i just cant remember how ?
I will see how long the box will handle the 10 or 12psi with a big tranny cooler and i would like to use 2.5 but most vlt kits are 3" upwards. Not chasing big boost or numbers at the moment i am only chasing a mean dose.
With regards to oil and water lines are they hard to hook up ? do you know if its hard to hook up the exhaust manifold and turbo ?
Cheers mate and i saw your thread on your car it looks tuff good work with it.
Hey man thanks for that...
Oil and water line are easy, your block should have the holes tapped already they are on the Exhaust Side(hot Side) just need to source some, there are some on ebay to suit stock VLT setup. Exhaust Manifold is easy as well. just make sure u give your exhaust studs a good hit with some INOX/WD40 Etc a few days before hand(Be Generous) so it can penetrate and help free them up. If you dont well u will most probably Snap some manifold Studs off. I was Lucky did not brake any.
It is recommended to replace them in the conversion, but u dont have 2.
Turbo is quite simple as well as for your setup the Turbo would be a low mount manifold setup. So you bolt the turbo to the manfold first and then onto the manifold studs.
Mean Dose, if i boost to 1 PSI controlling it with the throttle and let off it does a Mad Flutter/Dose so at 6 psi its Nuts and so on.
I am still trying to get an ECU as well, i have the Turbo Injectors
As for the box, i would Shift Kit it and get it Strengthened, or go Turbo Manual Box :P
Goodluck
Here to help in the convert if need be,.
you can run a vl Na ecu with vlt turbo injectors and they will run fine, yes the pulse is different but they do not run as NA injectors, the main difference between the computers is the knock sensor. my car pulled 205rwkw with VLT injectors and a NA ecu and the air fuel ratio did not go above 12-1. this was on 12.5 PSI
This is on a A8 motor not hicomp but still the injectors do work with a NA ecu
must be the bigest power ive seen pulled from a stock ecu and your prob manual to?
nice, thanks for that man.
thats good to know
i have not heard of this.... well i think i might install my turbo injectors and give it a dyno run.
so what ratio is getting too lean, where it can be fatal to the motor?
yeah mine is manual. yeah a few people have said thats a pretty impressive figure, but let me tell ya it feels every bit of the 200 to. its awesome fun to drive. well mine at 12-1 i wouldnt really want to go any leaner. the dyno is a lot different to road conditions, most people dont think of this and can lead to motors poping. Also my injectors are pretty much maxing out on 12.5 pounds so if i wanna go any more boost, bigger injectors and comp is the go. turbo is already hi flowed but would probably be near reaching its max i would think.
Yer i will most likely try to go with vlt ecu and injectors just to be safe especially since i am trying to get 10psi to 12psi i will first run it on 7psi with unleaded and then try it on 10psi with a little unleaded if it pings i will put premium or high octane in. I am not even going to try and advance the timing with this setup but i have heard on A8 engines it gives them a decent boost.
Does anyone know how much it would cost to highflow a T3 or if a standard T3 can handle 12psi.
Vl walky mentioned to me he had 14 or 14.5psi with his a6 setup he had.
Still trying to find out how to trick the n/a ecu to think its turbo.
Seen a good gteck kit on ebay with no holes kit but its 230x300x76 intercooler but i want my cooler to be exposed so i am hunting a 600x300x76 or 600x400x76 with 3 inch piping.
Have found out 3 inch piping would be ok for my setup especially if its over 10 psi.
Would love to drop in a manual oneday if i can sus out the parts cheap enough but its hard to find a decent box that hasn't been flogged.
Mate you do not need to trick the na ecu, that was the whole point of my post. it will run fine. and i would suggest runnin high octane premium straight up it will ping on normal unleaded can almost guarantee it. i dunno if a standard T3 would handle 12 pounds, I drive mine daily on 10 PSI and thats a high flow T3
thats how a 600x300x76 sits, would want to go any bigger in my opinion,
my piping is 2.5'' on the hot side and 3'' on the cold side
Well i will give the n/a ecu a go with vlt injectors and see how it goes with 10psi to start off with.
Thats the exact size i want to go but why did you go 2.5 on the cold side and 3 inch on the hot side ?
And just another question probably a silly one but how do you setup a bov or a dose pipe ? and boost gauge ?
cheers.
thats just how the kit was made mate, i didnt choose any piping its a no holes jd customs kit. for a dose pipe you need to move the AFM (air flow meter) into the cooler piping ao you can have nothing on the front of the turbo. then put a pipe on the front of the turbo different sizes and angles will create different sounds. there is a thread on calaisturbo.com on how to do it, as for bov you need to attatch it to the cooler piping, the closer to the throttle body the better, then a vacuum line needs to be run to it from the intake manifold somewhere, just tee into one. the same for a boost gauge you can just tee into the same line as you use for your bov if you have one. pretty easy stuff mate just need to know what your doing.
thats mine with a dose pipe set up, the afm is in the cooler piping and you can see the pipe coming from the turbo
I ran my boost gauge off this Vac line..... u can run this to BOV as well

a6's can run good.i was running mine on round 17psi.
i made 196rwkw on 10 psi and auto
f**k 196rwkw on psi and auto was the turbo highflowed t3 ? and did the auto have anywork done was it the
standard 4 speed jatco or a mx7?
Well at the moment i decided to maybe go with a hidden cooler for stealth reasons because i dont know how
the police will target it with a big 600x300x76. Not sure yet if i can make it legal without going engineers.
But i am thinking off going with 2.5 piping to avoid lag and putting the afm in the piping near the throttle body
and putting on a 2.5 or 3 inch by 6 or 7 inch dose pipe what ever gives the best dose on 10psi or 12psi.
I am going with vlt injectors and ecu just to play it 100% safe but for a little while i will try n/a injectors and
n/a ecu.
Deffinently going with a shiftkit and tranny cooler on the auto
mini spool
low mount manifold.
does anyone know the price on highflowing the T3 ?
Also what exhaust do you recomend i am thinking two ways i could go.
Cheap way which would be 2.5 cat back with one muffler with a 2.5 dump pipe and either a highflow cat or
a hollow cat for a little while.
Or
Expensive way
3 inch all the way from the turbo to the arse end.
And final question for tonight whats better a decomp plate or a mls head gasket or two copper head gaskets
and is a mild cam worth wild because vlt cams where abit better then n/a.
thanks.
Just did some more reading and it seems there two ways i can go about it when it comes to the knock sensor
1: i can hook it up so that the vlt ecu works fun and doesnt cut out power thinking its pinging or detonating so far this sounds like a safe idea to do but how hard is it to hook up ?
2: Get a remaped n/a ecu thinking its a vlt ecu but with a deleted knock sensor but i think this might be unsafe ?
Also with regards to the afm is it best placed right next to the throttle body in the cooler piping or else where ?
And it seems that the n/a ecu and n/a injectors can only handle 7psi safely so i wouldn't be able to make 10psi on first start up.
Do you guys know if the fuel pumps can handle 10 to 12psi ?
cheers.
AFM closest to TB man... is the go
so it is reading colder/dense air...
run premium fuel i have not tried it without it, but i rekon it will ping.
be safe and run N/A injectors and ECU on 6 psi..
u can get a Nistune on the N/A ECU go to NIStune - Nissan Realtime ECU tuning
Go 3" from turbo right through a highflow Cat.
Would not worry about knock sensor, if u hear it ping retard your timing, run a better cooler or higher octane fuel.
Get a VLT Fuel Reg as well.
All u gotta do is be smart about it and know what your engine is doing as well as run gauges so u know about temps/pressures etc
Oil Psi/Oil Temp/Boost Gauge etc
My Cooler is 600X300X75 and it sits like shauns does. C Below
More Power = More Money so its up to u. :P
Goodluck
Note: (Just think of the Dose pipe u r thinking off, The air is not filtered for your engine so debris can get inside and either hit the blades of your turbo, or get past and slowly block up your cooler or get past cooler and into your Bore + the AFM Mesh is not that fine. Just a thought)

yeah i have a pod filter on the end of mine now and it still sounds pretty much exactly the same. gonna sort out some thing else soon though as its suckin in lots of hot air. i only moved the air flow meter into the cooler piping coz i was having trouble with it over fueling on throttle back off and stalling. dose's now if i like it or not lol
Yer i am considering a long but slim front mount for stealth purposes mainly becoz off the cops in my area.
How much does a niztune ecu cost and vlt injectors ?
So does anyone have a pic off where the best spot for the afm is thanks.
Just a question does anyone know if theres a way to register a vl as a turbo in vic without going engineers like just doing a rwc before hand and then registering it or would that not work ?
I would love to stay somewhat legit besides the dose pipe i heard theres no way to make that legit.

VLT injectors u can pick up for approx $200 ebay
umm the nistune im not quite sure on Nackerz will help out here hopefully he got it done.
Best spot man wherever it fits nice after the cooler. like where shauns is, there u dont have to extend the AFM wiring harness
Mine is B4 cooler as this is where the provision was when i got the piping off ebay. But making it run rich.. when i can be bothered i will move mine :P
Yer good part is nackers is helping me with the whole setup installation so hopefully we can get it all running sweet.
N/A Highcomp Turbo Setup - calaisturbo.com.au
Should help you out...
hey mate yeah i was running a jatco auto,3000stall with gtr injectors.although at 10 psi im 90% sure if i had vlt injectors it stil would have made the same
.....196rwkw on 10 psi auto and made 650nm of tourqe
my turbo specs are....
- T3/4 Highflow Turbo
- T04 .06 Comp Cover
- T04 H –Trim 58mm Front Wheel
- Sierra Cosworth Exhaust Wheel
- Modified VLT Exhaust Housing
if your going to go for a cam i recomend the wade cam range and 90% of people on ct.com will agree.
i have a reco head with a wade 818b 1062c cam shaft in it if your interested.head is 500kms old.im selling up all my frive line.
use a mls gasket dont use copper unles you "O''ring your block.if you do use a copper gasket one is enough you can buy them up to 1.6mm i think
my cooler
