So hello. Im an aussie boy who has moved to work over in thailand as a teacher for a few years. Well around the traps i met another aussie who had a VL Calais sitting at his house. After a few beers he agreed to sell it me. Score!
Anyway it cost only $600. Not bad since the orginal de stroked rb30(boo) has been replace with an Rb20. That is dirt cheap for a car here seeing that there is not many cars in thailand because of thailands 150% import tax.
Its a bit beat up but labour and parts are dirt cheap and i need a hobby.
So as far as i can work out the car was sold here under Holden but that only lasted for a few year till they went bust.
So it doesnt have the id plates like aussie cards but it does have the stamps. Can you guys help me work out what the stamps mean.
Cheers
VL8VK19 = commodore sedan SL, executive, vacationer, formula, hsv group A-SS. 8VX19=calais
this is the only number I can help you with, although it says it is a commodore not a calais there were lots of hybrid packages put together for export E.G. V5F = calais upgrade 01/04/87 onwards.
look for XX4 = Thailand vehicle package and the reason there is not compliance plate is V5Z DELETE= safety compliance plate - EXPORT.
I think the TVD number is a Thai i.d., E.G. chassis number.
and interestingly the service sticker recommends SHELL products and here in OZ holden recommend VALVOLINE products.
I don't think I have helped much but thats my 2 cents worth.
P.S. just remembered in many cars of that era holden placed the vehicle build data sheet under the carpet towards the centre of the vehicle not all cars have it but many have been found there.
Nobody wants to play with me
Hmm i checked under the carpet and there is nothing there. Im not really that fussed just curious?
Thats ****ing awesome. rip the 2l out and drop a rb30 turbo in it... Clean it up repsray it. And blaze the whole ****ing street and when the cops see you smoking the whole street up bribe them $20 and be on your way....

Back to topic. Ive been here for near on a year now and the only person i see doing burnouts is ...me lol
Labour here is so cheap. Most time you just pay for the part and they install it for free.
Example I got work done on the car. All the breaks checked and oiled and cleaned, o rings done on the injectors, powersteering rebuilt, steering rack done, oil change and a general check over..................cost 180$ in parts and $30 labour ( three days it was in the shop and the steering parts had to be made from scratch) and then they discounted the labour to $20- and in the end they were really happy with how much money they made. The minimum wage here is $3 a day LOL
ive seen 2 vl's and 1 vp in thailand. trippy seeing them overseas
