Passenger Door Lock-Out

Guys, seems simple enough question, but my front passenger door won't open at all neither by inserting the key or trying to open from the inside of the car!

How do I get the car door open so that I can fix the lock?

with great difficulty I would imagine!
pull the weather strip off the outside of the door grab a torch and see if you can manipulate the lock from the inside using a screwdriver or piece of wire, if the security plate is still in the door it may not be possible, alternatively you should be able to remove the inside door trim (not easy).

Is it, the actual lock that is at fault or perhaps something else?

The lock will not unlock if the rod from the inner door handle to the latch inside the door is bent. Try taking the screws out that hold your inner door handle in place then see if it will unlock.
