Firstly i have a VL shell, it was originaly turbo from factory, the motor was removed quite some time ago (before it got in my hands) The MX7 box and 28 spline Diff are still in the car, im looking for an original A8 motor to put in it, however im unsure where to start or what too look for...
What i think:
Im going to try to find a original vl turbo motor in stock condition so i can re-build it, but what else will i need and what should i look for when checking out a motor... ive done a bit of searching and cant find what im looking for

Dont really have to look for a whole lot man if your going to rebuild it. just check the engine number to make sure its a turbo motor. should end with A8 non turbo motors end with A6. look around on calaisturbo.com.au there is always motors for sale on there. thats where i got my complete motor from.

brown top injectors are vlt injectors.
3ta is a vl turbo auto ecu.
to check turbo grab the front wheel in turbo with two fingers on the nut and wigle it side to side.it shouldnt have to much play.and also pull it back and forward if it has movment there walk away lol
thanks, am i better off buying the above all at once or should i buy the injectors and ecu if i find them now for a good price )and what would a good price be)
Also with the ecu its to suit a manual, im not 100% sure but one to suit manual should read 3tm? and the 3ta can be used for manual or auto but the 3tm can only be used for manual?
anything else i will need specificaly off a turbo for parts (i will be usiing a VL SL NA for parts)

thats what i said mate and he refused it as he wants to build it himself, dunno why when he could buy mine which is fully rebuilt just drop in and your done, got reco head bigger cam not much bigger just a little lumpier, new rings and bearings, new water pump, new gates racing timming belt, arp head studs, freshly painted wrinkle red rocker cover.
what more do you want
or he could buy yours which is basically the same without the cam etc

N nackers I'm not just gonna drop 6k on something I don't know enough about, I want to know n learn/research about this stuff before I put down money on anything
yeah you caan have my motor with full turbo setup for $1800 or if you just want the a8 and head $900
will be in touch, but ill just add.. keep in mind im trying to build up info about this as well as buy
so buy turbo setup what is actually included? and is this called a long motor?
obviously the other option is buying the a8 block with head bolted on, is that all thats included and is this a short motor?

people have difrent opinions on what long motors and short motors are.
i would think a long motor is a full complete motor with all bolt ons and a short motor would be block and head.
but some people sey a short motor is just a block.
yeah id do the whole lot from loom,ecu,motor all bolt ons like alt,starter,power steer pump,transfor that price so your not missing anything
i dont want 6k just for the motor thats for full turbo conversion all bolt ons for motor everything if you want details ask me
ok through my searching and reading i came across a guy selling a genuine sl turbo lw5 mx7 car etc etc, apparently its never been rebuilt, and has only done 150 000k )but who knows) few parts are off like the front mount cooler that is beinge kept, as well as the petrol tank, the original crossover is currently off but will come with the car, it also has a 3 inch exhaust and new master cylinder aprox 3 months old, im unable to hear the motor running and the car is a write off, i can get this car for $2500 what are your thoughts?
