The seals around my tail lights are ****ed and leaking, just wondering if the only way to fix this is with new tail lights? i have been told i can't buy just the rubber seals...
silicon them around.
this is a very common problem and not just with the vl.
as blueV8vl has said, or the most common way is to get a 3-5 mm drill bit and drill the base of the lenses so the water drains away, and I know you can't get just the seal if you can it would probably be cheaper to buy new tail lights.
Nobody wants to play with me
thats what i have done for both my lights was fillin up with water when i got it and my vl b4 this one was doing it as well
2 small holes under neath like Jat has stated and all good.
the taillights weren't filling up, it was going straight though into the boot. I got new lights with seals and it's now happening even worse...
Doesn't seemed to be the boot seal. The other day i poored water on to the taillights, and it went straight through the rubber and into the boot..
looks like you will have to seal it witn silicone then.
whats the best way to silicon it? should i take the lights off and put silicon around the seal the place them back on?
for a cleaner finish it would be better to remove them and then stick them back in, make sure you clean both surfaces with metho or similar so the silicone sticks good.

i would also just double check how tight you did them up.
i put new lights in mine once and was worried about breaking
the mounts. they can actually get pretty tight though as i found out.
good luck
Use a non hardening sealer like a windscreen sealer otherwise you will have a bigger of a time getting them out in future i you need to.
Thanks for the replys!
I'll try silicone soon when i can have my car in the garage for the full day.
Yeah I got new tail lights and rubbers but the ****ers are still leaking!
I foun in mine that the metal rim on the part of the boot closest to the rear window, had rusted away under the seal letting water into my boot, in the process of getting some silicon to patch it up. Sick of bailing out water after a wet day.![]()
haha i had that with my old vl... just ended up pulling out the rubber grommets in the bottom so water went straight through, i did rebuild the lip with bog and sand it so the rubber seal clipped back on it but it was dodge. minimized it though
