Hi there
I just bought myself a new stereo for my VL but have found to my dismay that there's not enough space behind the hole where the old stereo was to slide the new one all the way in. It protrudes about an inch from being in the right spot. Anyone got any ideas as to how to get around this problem?
Thanks.
mine had the same prob, caused by the rca's n antenna plug.
if that's the prob, get some right-angled leads, that solved my prob.
otherwise, might needs take out the a/c, or put it down low like jetspin _vl did. think u needa part of a calais dash to do that tho? not too sure
attatched a pic for u to have a look at anyway, compliments of MR jetspin_vl of course![]()
That looks cool in that position, is that standard with any of the VLs or just a coincidence/made it go there sorta thing?
pretty sure it's just been made a convenience thing these days.
1987 was a long time ago to be thinkn bout mp3's n plasma's...
not to mention how far the olsen twins have come...
da-doing-doing, doing
You can grind out the bit of the dash a bit and get it to fit a touch easier.
The radio I bought fits in the hole fine, but I can't slide it all the way back as it hits the aircon (or something).
At this stage the best suggestion i've had is to pull the security sleeve out a bit (to a point where the radio clicks in to it properly) and then pop-rivet or screw it in to the dashboard - it's probably the way i'll go unless I hear any other ideas
Thanks.

Hi
What strap would you be referring to? Sorry, i'm a bit of a n00b when it comes to this stuff

the bottom dash bit that jetspin has is a berlina/calais thing......you can get one for about $40.....but i saw a brocky that had a old equaliser(standard)that was made for that purpose........if you can find one of them it would be better
you need to cut the angled plastic edges off the dash surround/fascia for it to fit. the metal bracket behind may still have the original screw or even original tape deck back support hanging off it which requires the screw to be chiseled off. easier than sitting there with an angled screw driver trying to undo it a mil at a time.
i believe he said it's not DEEP enough?
am i wrong?

he means that if you grind away the two lips either side of the dash facia you can angle it down, thus causing rca cables and all that other shit to miss the air con box and sit in there happy like.
like so, (sorry for the small pic but im sure u get teh idea)
i suppose it would depend on the deck but myn coveres all the rough edges around the out side so it looks smick. and it should clear, in running 8 rca leads and the arial plug out the back of my deck.
Thats it blurry. pretty much the main idea.
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
i can see clearly now... that blurry's here

Unfortunately the deck is still too deep for the hole, even with these modifications. (I already did these when I installed the old deck) - it's simply a case of the new deck is just too deep to fit properly.Originally Posted by Blurry
