Default Is a BOV worth the money??

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone can point me towards a link or has info on what BOV's actually do? I don't know much about turbos so im tryin to find out if it's worth gettin one or spend the money on somethin better. If i did get one it would probably be silent as im not over keen on the sound of them.

And another quick question.. Does anyone know if you can get shift lights on there own? dont want one on a tacho coz theres nothing wrong with the tacho in the dash. Thanks fullas, your imputs are appreciated...

I have a Plumb Back Turbosmart BOV Brand new here. The benefit of Plumb back is its super quiet and the excess boost just re-enters the intake system. I was about to put it on eBay....

Plumb back BOVs ARE legal, the ones that vent to atmosphere are illegal as it stuffs up the fueling, EPA doesn't like it. I'd recommend a small plumb back BOV, all they are there for is to protect the turbo when you shut the throttle quickly, the plumb back sends the intake air back to the intake before the turbo so the engine has the same amount of air that was originally metered, therefore legal and nicer to drive than one that vents to atmosphere.

Also they are quieter than no either no bov or a vent to atmosphere bov. You can run without, but is noisy, cops will probably pull you over, I ran without one for 1 day before I put it back on as the noise was pissing me off, happened on every shift no matter what rpm.

Depends on if you like the fully sick pigeon trapped in the intake sound.

It really is personal choice what you go for.

I was going to put the BOV on eBay for $350. Thats $50 less than what people are asking on eBay.

You can have it for less because of JC. Let me know if your interested..

Like the guys who put fully sick neons under their car... So they can stand back and wank on about how fully sick their neons are bro..."look bro, if I flick this switch, they blink.... Like on The fast and the furious..."

The wank factory means doing something that really doesn't serve a purpose other than something to "wank" about...

Although I have to disagree with Bow Down... BOV are made for a reason.. Obviously you know they vent excess boost from the intake. This is because that excess air can damage the turbo and TB... That "fully sick dose" that everyone does can actually be harmfull to the turbo setup... The sound you hear in the pressurised air bouncing around the intake back and forth againts the turbo...It can be damaging and also slows the turbo down forcing it to work more.

Using a BOV also stops the spool time between shift as it stops that air from coming back on the turbo and slowing it down.

If I was to run a turbo setup on any one of my cars I would most definately run one. You can get "stealth" series of BOV which make no noise and work just as well as the loud ones... If you prefered that over the Plumb Back method...

You can stick that BOV on ebay if you want. thanks for the offer but im still savin for HSV brake upgrade so i wont be buyin one for a while if decide to get one. From what iv gathered it seems like there only useful if your racing or something. im just looking at all the options because this is the first turbo car ive had.

BOVs are good for high boost like 16+... If your running like 10 pound or so its fine to run without.

if its doseing at all out the intake (sounds like a horse sneasing ) when you shut the throttle fit one on it will make the turbo last heaps longer
