weird shuddering/knock/noise, just started today :S

hey ive got a 5speed VL commy and just today it started a weird shudder/knock noise, its not very loud but you can definately notice it. when your accelerating you cant hear it but sometimes when you back off you can hear it. and it happens more when your going slow, its definately coming from the rear of the car :S any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks guys

Check your exhaust mounting rubbers.

Also check trans mounts and Centre Bearing Mounts, could also be worm Uni's
Can u describe this sound,,, is it a "Ding" sorta sound or more or a deeper sound/knocking sound

am i looking to see if the rubbers are worn? nah definately not a ding sound, its a really low, deep kind of shuddering noise. and i cant tell if its happening all the time either. i havent driven it much since it started doing it, and its hard to have a look under the car as i dont have a hoist in my garage lol

best bet... i would think shimmy under the car and inspect the exhaust mounts. grab your exhaust and shake it and see if it is hitting somewhere..(Bet U its just your exhaust:P)
i had a knocking sound to the rear of my car to find out i had dropped a rear rubber mount on the exhaust and it was banging on the spare tyre well and Panhard Rod.
while your there check your Trans Mount Bolts are tight so put a socket on them and nip em up as well as the centre bearing mount. Give your Tailshaft a shake as well

P.S: if your car is hard to get under park it on the gutter(2 Passanger wheels up on gutter, drivers side wheels on road and slide under it... or use your jack and suitabe stands or your spare tyre to shove under the car, Never rely just on the jack.

as all above have said, also to check your trans mounts look at the back of the trans the space between the trans housing and the crossmount should be about an inch any less and the mounts are sagging or broken.
