ok, well pulled the dials out yesterday, in an attepmt to fix my fuel guage, and i THINK i found the problem, if so, when they go back it it should work.
Just wondering, is there any aftermarket faces out there for a vl?
My exec has 4 guages (temp, speedo, clock, and fuel)
i've seen some around for $199 but i dont need the hole thing, just the 3 piece face the sits inside. i'd also like to replace the clock with a tacho.. would it be hard?
worst case senario, i'll tape over the guages and spray the ugly blue lines all black or orange.
any suggestions or info would be appreciated.

Umm.. Theres a thread on here somewhere, a guy makes custom ones with whatever you want printed.
I wouldn't pay anymore then 100 for a series 2 calais cluster, and no more then 70 for a berlina/ or just a standard spec tacho cluster. So I'd keep looking around I guess. Wouldn't be too hard to paint over, I thought of that option long ago aswell.
Yeah, I thought I saw a pic on here earlier with the 'ugly blue lines' painted over - think it was all red and looked pretty cool. I've got a problem with my odometer not working but can't be f**ked pulling the dash apart to have a look. The thing doesn't tick over anymore and I'm not sure if it's the instrument cluster thingy or something to do with where it reads the ks (as you can see I'm a real mechanic). My bet is that it's something to do with a dodgy display - the speedo and all the other gauges still work.
Have a look on ebay bro, the dash clusters were going for $50 and custom faceplates for $70 delivered, they had stuff like whit with blue lightning, white with red holden lion, and plain white. looked off the hook I definately wanna get one when I get the $$$
what was your gauge doing glennbra? could be the sender in the tank if its screwing.....
yea cheers boys, ah my fuel guage was... prolly workin once in every 10 times i started the car, i had to give the cluster a good wack for it to start working, n when it was workin for a minute or so (even less) it's just die.
BUT... Found a wire tho that screw's underneath a nut that was loose. lets hope she works wen it get in.
anyways... i ended up usin some orange vinyl, a coffee mug and a sharp razor blade and carfully stenciled. I though it'd be a temp solution... but so far it's lookin pretty damn good! Posted a pic 4 ya'z to look at, will post another of the finished product. (prolly ova the weekend)

How would ya go about that? Isn't all the clear plastic shit like green, or is that just some sorta sticker over em?Originally Posted by DIXIE

i originally tried it on my shifter... for that one though, one blue led wasnt bright enough to light up all the gears, 1, 2, and D lit up, but N, R and P werent lit up, so i ended up drilling a hole at the top end of the area that gets lit up, splicing into the wire, and running a second LED there, this way theres light coming from both ends, and it all lights up nicely.
i think the green is a sticker though, it just seemed like a messy job to peel it all off, and it works shining a blue LED through it... so smiles all around![]()
sounds nice, got any pics of it?
Wherabouts do you purchase the LEDs from, and do they just click into the sockets already there. Cuz they different size bulbs in dash compared to trans.
leds are from dick smiths.. i'd imagine a bit of soldering with a couple of resistors aswell
if you went to dick smiths and told them your running 16v and you want to plug a few led's in they'd give you exactly what you wanted..
ps.. i think for 10 bucks you'd come out with a large large handful of the suckers
Hey, those gauges look pretty cool. When I can be screwed I might actually get round to pulling out my dash and doing the same. Are you planning on keeping it plain orange or adding your own graphics to it? Something simple like a Holden logo/ Lion logo etc might go okay (if that's what you go for). I'd put something like this in the upper corner above the temp gauge...
tru, well if i come across a decent looking holden sticker out there in black or white, it'd give it the finishing touch aye... but not too concerned at the moment... more worried about how the hell im gunna get my seats back in..
only 3 bolts on each seat now have a nut in the chassis to screw into...
and i wanna get the seat brackets right before i install the carpet.
VERY FRUSTRATED RITE NOW.
