hey i just got a VL and was told that there is a VR Fuel Pump in my VL because it kepted blowing the VL ones up.... they had to chop it down or something and was wondering would this make my fuel guage out of whack because my fuel guage had told me i had just over a quarter but then the car ran out of fuel
would not affect your fuel gauge as it is a variable resistor with a float.. depends if the VR has an inertia pump(intank pump) or lift pump.
Is the Fuel pump the highflow pump from a vr??(Not affect Gauge),
If the vr has an inertia pump with the gauge float in one assembly like the VL one the resistance and readings could be different giving u a false reading at the gauge,.,
Depends what pump u have.
yeah i aint too sure on all the technical side of it all, but i know i run out of petrol when the guage is just over a quarter
gauge could be stuffed or the sender unit(variable resistor and float) could be failing
well i swapped the dashes around.. so most likely to be the float/resistor?
Most likely yes, they arent that hard to change, i have changed a few now.
Jack the car up
Axle stands on both sides
Let the diff down as low as it goes
Get under and undo the bolt on the bottom to allow any fuel to drip or drain out
Carefully manovure it out, this is tricky because it is a small space to work with but it does come out and dont force it!
it is one piece dude. as in the inertia pump(lift Pump) and sender unit in one. ill get a pic now of me spare. :P so u know what your working with
![]()
so another chance could be that the pump/sensor is the wrong way round giving me a bad guage
what u mean by wrong way round??
dunno hahalike i havent taken one out before but like say if north goes to north for it to work, and its west to north so it aint working, dunno if i have confused you there
Nah im pretty sure there is no such thing us upside fuel pumps for a vllol
it will only go in one way dude and u just manouver it back into the swirlpot inside your tank it will not sit flush on the tank to bolt up if u have it wrong.
and when u think about it, if its upside down your gauge will show Empty when full and Full when Empty. But you cant get it wrong
