Default Solex Locks and After Market central locking

    HI all,

My brother in-law has a VL commodore and he has fitted the solex locks as most people do to secure the car a little more, I am going to be helping fit an alarm to the car in the near future, the alarm as remote arm/disarm etc all the good stuff, now thats the easy bit, I would also like to add a central locking kit, the install of the kit seems to be fairly simple after reading some of the other threads on here.

What I need to 100% know is, can central locking be fitted with solex locks and actually work, or is just impossible.

    Thanks

I was told no - as once the solex's are deadlocked then central locking will not work.

So unlike conventional locks that can be turned to a closed position without a key, the solex locks are locked i either closed or open then.

I think the solex locks are either deadlocked or unlocked and can't be operated with central locking. I looked into them a few years back for my VL which had central locking and was told by a few locksmiths that the central locking would not work with them.

why put solex locks in they are no harder to break into, they are just a aftermarket wast of time. Put standard locks back in and then go for your central, easy peasy japanesy

You can put solex locks and central locking in, i had it on my VL. solex locks allow you to have it unlocked, locked and deadlocked. Similar to that of a deadlock on a house door. When my VL got stolen they couldnt get past the solex locks, so they smashed the window and opened the door that way, stupid me forgot to but the immobiliser on and hence it was found at 4am before i reported it stolen in frankston with every panel kicked in and wheels back to the metal, with windows broken and the fire extinguisher sprayed all over it.

In my opinion solex locks are good, although there only weakness is making sure they are in tight, sometimes when not installed properly you can get a screwdriver underneath them and pop them out, as long as this cant happen you should be right.

They were made round so that screwdrivers couldn't be fitted in and stuff up the lock, no point replacing it with standard if some c*nts gonna keep sticking a screwdriver in it. I replaced mine with solex for that reason had to work the key round in the hole to unlock it.

I wouldn't see y it wouldn't work, its only a matter of the metal shaft thing sliding backwards and fowards.

Fair enough but don't be fooled into thinking there more secure you can still pop them off easily. A decent Alarm and immobiliser (plus key central on your key ring remote always a plus) is a much better investment, but if you say your locks are broken I spose it makes sence to replace them with Solex locks, ive never had my locks Tampered with but they did pop them out once also smashed a window another time. I hate car thiefs my car is 1987 does it look like im rich piss off.
