    Default shaved locks?

ok. i heard of ppl "shaving" there locks.
is this like just filling in the key hole etc? and then covering over etc....

like i was thinking about it the other day!
i dont ever use me locks!

i have central locking.. whats the point?

should i cover them over?? would be safer, like from getting stolen!!

anybody done anything of a sort?

    thanks peeps

Dunno how often it can happen but what if your c/l plays up? If someone really wanted to get in your car they would, mine have had the old screwdriver behind the lock, wrecked the door, been fixed, and lock covers added, then the screwdriver in the keyhole, then i replaced with solex, dunno how many solex keys are the same, but i can open and start 2 other vl's with my key. Would you plan on doing the boot one as well, same o, wat if the button plays up; they do. If you don't have alarm or imobiliser go ahead, nothing worse than finding out some cu*t has tried getting into your car or worse stole it.
How good are your breaking into vl skills? if u were to have a prob!

    lol.. yeh spose!

they screw up when battery goes flat now i think of it:| lol...

happened just the other day and i had to use key to get into car:|

id leave the boot cause there is noway for them to get into car...
or i wouldnt actully as i can open it with keys by holding the button in
so yeh and also from inside of car in glove box...

i would just need some sort of a back up battery for the immobiliser and stuff and i would be set
    i think..

Well I'm getting mine done, shaving the lock purely to tidy up the outside of the car - but on the inside im getting a bigger metal bracket welded over the top of the lock mechanism. The one thats there now just isn't any good at all, I mean, I can get into my vl in 20 seconds on my first go. Thats scary.

Basically you take the lock out, weld a plate behind the door, bog over to smooth it off, paint over. Probably have to get the whole door resprayed if you were to get it looking good.

I'm leaving my boot lock as the only exposed lock on the car- I was tempted to smooth that aswell. But, battery relocated into the boot in case of flat battery. But if the mechanism itself fails it looks like I'll be smashing a window.

    true that!!

are you actully putting battery in the boot?? thats a mad idea!! although i would hate to see how 'phat' the wire is you use to take all the leads down there! lol...

    umm thats a mad idea...

but i dont see how you smooth it over...

like to smooth it over wouldnt you just fill the hole in thats in the door handles (isnt that where the lock is =s) i cant really remember exactly! therfore you would have to paint and smooth over door handle.. that possible? paint it chrome again? =\

the door handle stays there man. the lock is seperate and when thats taken out it leaves a hole.

as for the battery in the boot, you need a battery box, and a new battery, unless you want to put a vent in your boot, which i'd doubt. so you'd get a sealed battery.. few meters of fairly heavy cable and about double that for earthing.

then you run the positive to the starter motor, then earth it to the floor in your boot, and the block. Then connect all of your previous connections from your battery to the starter. Done.

you could still shave your boot lock i reckon bex, keep it all happening nice and smooth.
ive seen a car with no locks, and to get around the battery problem there were a couple of terminals under the car (it didnt have a relocated battery) so if the batt went flat you just hook the jumps to the terminal clips. i mean for the number of times your car goes flat (hopefully very few!) it would be worth shaving th lock and having to reach under the car to jump start it.
Since the batt is in teh boot use the section between the lights. A mate hinged his and moved the filler there and smoothed out the filler. i imagine you could have emergency starter clips behind there.
i think youll get what i mean? i can picture it but might have explained it badly....

    i know what you mean!!

    thats a mad idea!
like you could have them just sitting anywhere under the car there! yes its a great idea! would be a bastard if you wont over a bump and the terminals got stuck on each other under the car =\

lol. thats an easy thing to prevent though.....
i like that idea!! i really do =)

Yeah I picture exactly what your talking about. And it may very well be done. It wouldn't be hard, the battery is probably going to be mounted in the spare tyre well. so the connections could be put there somehow.

yeah if u dont wanna get ur vl stolen and appart from the vn its the easiest commy to take.. shave ur locks. or evenm just block them up inside so robbers get confused lol...
    -shave the locks, looks good.
    -get central locking,
-relocate the batery to bypass the central locking locking u out when batts flat
    -get an alarm.
and get a seperate imobiliser cos its not hard to break a windowe of the coathanger down the window whatever. its realy not hard. but if u have a switch somewhere they dont know then their not getting far atleast

realy thats not much seing u want to keep ur car...and ive seen some realy nice vls that could very easily just be taken thrashed to hich hell stripped burnt whatever. when a few hundred dollars would make it safer and it does look better and is easier

but theirs always someone who will just smash ur window steel ur smokes and cds and nick off leaving u with hundreds of dollars of damage and missing shit or just key ur car cos they dont have it... I WANT A FORCE FEILD (idiot trying to get in :b: )

yeah i will end up doing the whole lot done, top job alarm system, shaved locks, plate in the door.

here is an idea about the battery going flat, you could run a small wire from the + terminal and tie it around somewhere at the bottom of the car, then you just need a battery charger and attach positive to that wire and negative to the body. i dont see why you would put the battery in the boot unless it was to clean up the bay a bit, and yeah it would look pretty schmick... get me thinking now... good on ya

edit: and please dont drag little niggles between posts. its not fair on other members or what they are trying to find out.
I suggested in another post you stop using caps for the whole post, you had a go back at me, it should have stopped there.

a- he constantly repeats what was said only a few posts ago, in threads that are well and truely finished with.
b- i dont think about who i am, i know who i am, therefore dont have to think about who i might be.
c- wouldnt this crap have been even when you had a go back at me straight after i had 'started' it? wasnt worth spotting something i wrote elsewhere and making yet another comment.
d- no need to be over myself, i hold myself in higher regard than you and most other people i know. thats me! im the greatest.
Its finished with pal. Like you said i started it. so im finishing it. thats it. no more or ill report the posts and have the whole lot removed.
    finito.

RACQ aren't the only ones that can open the doors that way though. Thats why I reckon you need metal sleeves over the lock

might have mentioned this before, but a friend has a couple of wires to the battery termis, to lugs under the front of the car so if the battery dies he can jump charge it without having to get in the car (power the locks up and youre in). he has a little plate over them to keep them safe with a little key to open it.
