Well mate i just picked up my VL sl 88 Model(non turbo) for $2500... now granted the wheels suck and the paint bad but if you see potential you can get a great deal..i talked them down from $4000....i reckon between those prices is a great start....but those cheap 1 owner gems are always out there so happy hunting...

2500 is pretty expensive for a vl non turbo with shagged paint and wheels! If your not too worried about the appearance you should easily be able to pick one up for 1 to 2 grand.

I just payed 4k for vl turbo in shmick nick, new paint, rims, manuel and all the tricks! Can easy get an average turbo or an 8 for under 5.

well these all depend on how far you want take it. a cheapo respray isnt very much but if you do a bare metal respray then youre looking at a fair few thousand bucks. wheels also vary as well, depending on how big you want them, the style of them, if theyre chrome or mags etc. you can easily spend $2000+ on wheels if you buy big 20" chrome wheels or you can spend around $500 if you get some 16" second hand calais wheels or something. soundsystems also depend on how far you want to take them. if you buy just a basic headunit & speakers you could get away with spending around $500 and may get change. however if you want a top of the range dvd playing headunit, competition specs speakers, amps, subwoofers and tv screens for passengers then again, you can spend thousands. just have a look around for prices and ideas as theres plenty around

how much would a decent respray of the same colour cost?? im not looking to go too fancy just enough to give it some proper shine.. the rims im not too fused about some nice calais wheels would go a treat... im looking mostly to buy one that is stock and fix it up.. i think it would be more enjoyable that way, knowing ive done that myself..

and another big question is interior... it looks so old and disgusting.. any suggestions on what i can/cant change

    ^ that.

I bought mine for a hair over $2000 (you can see my thread in my sig) and since then I've already doubled that money in bits and pieces, and it's going to need much more than that spent on it to get it how I want it.

and look at common probs with the L as in Rust in various places as in under Boot seal and water gutters.(under the gutter inside the boot too) as well as rust along the windscreen seal and rear window seal..
    as well as Km's...
    General Condition,
    Interior
As well as weird noises from engine/gearbox and driveline and so forth..
    U know what mean.
Take the oil cap off and have a look inside the rocker cover for sludge buildup(may be hard too) as well as under the cap to see if it has had regular oil changes.
Get as much info as possible..
As for paint if u shop around or have a mate whos dads best friends sisters Mates Cousin, u may get a good price on a "Doors On" Respray. be expecting to pay $2500 really depends....
    Goodluck man let us know

And be prepared to walk away. There are a lot of dreamers out there that want like 7000k for their shitty executive. You can buy a decent one for 2-3k and i mean decent. Nothing falling apart, minimal rust, clean interior and so forth. For cars that are starting to reach around 25yr old i wouldnt worry a great deal about kms, more so whats been replaced how often it was servieced and has it been flogged. Hard to find a vl that hasnt though

I got a vl 1987 berlina 3.5" exsaust, mags, central locking imacualte interor for $350 ... went threw big puddel of warter and didnt start again .. has cracked front window small things i replaced wireing loom and computer now i need cas and i hope she starts all sighns say it will.. all depends on what your good at in fixing cars (me im no good at mechnics) but im good with electronics so i got a good car that i can work with cheap ..... depends on were u live and how much cash you have at the time .. my advice is if your looking for a vl in particular that you can fix and repair yourself keep at least $1000 at hand at all times .. if you see a vl in grown in grass go and ask !! they are out there to be found .. good luck in ya trip in finding a nice vl .. VL's are my fav car in the world took time to find a car that was worth it and that i could fix myself and could afford, BUT ITS WORTH IT IN THE END :P

P.S i have a compleate vl shell in S.a if ya can find your own motor ..

i bought my vl like 3 months ago 2 lady owners log books and serviced every 5000 ks for 1400 it is immaculate and well lokked after still has the original sticker in the back window i think i have spent about 500 so far doing minor unecesary repairs you just have to look around and dont always assume that if it sounds to good to be true it probably is because it wasnt the case with me i guess it is the perfect blank canvas for my next creation

Lots of sweet VL's for sale on Tradingpost and Carsales. Usually the prices are higher than average but it's easy to get them down if you're keen and a smooth talker. :-p
