Hi all, hope this hasn't been covered much before..
Since i got my vl (almost a year ago now) it has a rather loud bearing noise when the clutch is OUT and in neutral,1st 2nd or 3rd.. and a couple of times the car would grind to a halt when changing from 1st to 2nd.
so the guy at the local garage said it's the spigot bearing which needs replacing, so i got new bearings as well as a heavy duty clutch while we were at it, and the noise is still there, but drivability seems fine for now.. anyone had any thing like this?
Cheers,
Tom
It must be a bearing in the gearbox. At a guess i would say its the needle rollers that go in between the input and main shaft. If the shafts are pitted where the needle rollers run it will be an expensive fix.
Spiggot bearing, bet ya... its common prob on the vl...
1st 2nd and 3rd layshaft bearings in the box
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
hi guys thanks for the responses.
it shan't be the spigot as the dude replaced that one.. since its possible its inside the box, would you guys go about fixing it or just put up with it?
cheers![]()
If you keep driving it with a buggered bearing in the gearbox, it will eventually strip the teeth off some gears because as the bearings wear the shafts will be forced apart so the teeth of the gears only contact on the tips where they are weaker.
could even be the throw out bearing. if its not this will be the bearings in the box itself
yep, the throw out bearing he also replaced.. going in next week under warranty thankfully.. a righteous joke!
thx again peepz
