Default vl v8 cold morning proplems

    hey all....
I have a vl v8 wagon and i have a bit of an issue with it. It hates starting up 4 the first time and when it cools back down. It cranks over and over and over then kicks in but stalls. I need 2 use the accelerator 2 stop it from stalling. Now im new 2 carbies (last V8s were fuel injected) some1 said auto choke is playing up? but is there an auto choke? could it be my timing? like does it need a tune up? The car has been rebuilt but by a back yard mechanic. Also has upgraded cam

oh and once its started as soon as i put it in gear it stalls. I have 2 have the revs up a bit 4 it 2 get in gear? the only way it doesnt stall is if i let it sit for about 5mins but that wakes every1 in my neighbour hood up

and another problem is when i put my foot down (not always all the way) it like shudders, almost stalls but then takes off. Is it cause im flooding it? or is there something else going on there?

if it's still got the factory carb (Quadrajet), then yes it does have an auto choke, which doesn't sound like it's working properly

cheers man and i think its the factory one. I had noticed there is a couple of lines that look like suction lines with screws in it. I will get a pic 2moro so u can see what i mean.

ive had fuel injected v8s and now carbie. I like the noise of the carbie opening all the way up and sucking all the air in and the big crome cover on the air filter looks sick

You will need to tune your carby to suit the new cam. When you put a bigger cam in you normally have less vaccum at idle so it wont suck as much fuel in. You will at least have to wind the mixture screws out a bit to give it more fuel at idle and low revs. The choke can be adjusted to stay on for longer if needed and the idle speed while the choke is on can also be adjusted.

ahhh i see....thanks tree cutter. Just curious will doing this make me use more fuel? or get more power? or will it just make it idle and not stall as easy?

when you turn them off hot fuel evaporates then it sits there and the rest evaporates so in the morning they take a few turns for the mechanical fuel pump to fill the float bowls before they will start.on cold mornings they never like going into gear without stalling cam makes it worse.my neighbours used to love my 308 hq on cold mornings in winter
