I am just wondering i have had my VL wagon sitting out the front of my house for about 6 months now, starting it and leaving it to idel for a while. anywayz it wasnt started for a while, it now blows smoke i was just wondering what the problem could be, im thinking the rings are fked but i wonder if it could be anything eles thats making it blow smoke ?? also around how much does it cost to fix.
sorry for the stupid question but im not a big car professional![]()
have a look at the oil first bud, my engine blows chunks when the oil is over 12000k, change that first before you go changing anything else.
If you want more inches, STROKE IT!
Chances Are 1 Oil Has Gotten Past Valves Or Worse The Cylinders With Open Valves Have Allowed Moisture In And Rusted Rings, Do Job Your Self, Hone Bore Fit A New Set Of Rings, Cheapest Way Out While Head Off Bung In Some Valve Stem Seals, Sorry No Good News, Or May Be Needs Some Good Hard Running As Mine Did.
tru so thats most likley the problem ? ill change the oil n give it a tune cuz it has been sitting for ages just getting started every so often so yeh. how much do u think it will cost to get new rings n to be put in ?
Started my car after 6 months of sitting
Car blew smoke and I let it idle for 20 minutes and the smoke went away.
Was probably just old fuel.
When you first start it up try holding it at about 3000rpm or higher for about 25-30 secs. If the car continues to smoke even after you have given it a rev, you almost bet your life that its the piston rings. If the car stops smoking after the revving but smokes the next time you start it it means that the rubber seat thingys that sit on top of the valves are worn out (it will allow oil fom the top of the motor to drip down onto the top of the valve and into the combustion chamber and when the car is started it will burn the oil thus the motor will smoke). If thats the case it is supprisingly cheap to fix. (Should be under about $300).
