Exclamation Just how good are Solex locks?

Can they be opened with a screwdriver or coat hanger? Or should I just stick to the standard locks?

the whole mechanism stays the same ,just a different key barrel and key,i just put em on my vl calais and still have central locking. the locks arent foolproof it depends how bad someone wants your car

The standard locks can be opened with a screwdriver. Solex locks are much better, but ANY lock on ANY pre-VN Commodore is easy to circumvent. Especially the door locks.

I wouldn't have believed it until I saw how a VB I had was broken into. Not going into the details here, but let's just say it was a method I'd never have thought of. And Solex locks wouldn't have helped at all.

Honestly Solex locks are a wast of time stick with standard ones make sure there in good nick other wise they can just be turned with a screw driver. solex locks will have no affect on a car thief. Buy a decent alarm with immobiliser plus central locking on your key ring remote is always a plus.

Remove Buttons, Install Cental Locking With External Over-ride And Get A Sheetmetal Guy To Make Up Sheilds To Prevent Coathangers Getting To Mechanism, And Solexs Do Help, But Then They Get Pissed And Smash Stuff, Get Good At Replacing Windows After A While. The Vx Have A Dead Boltr Set Up, So If You Click Lock Twice Even The Key Wont Open It, And Only Drivers Door Unlocks So Our Poor Downtrodden Streetpeople Miss Out On A Free Ride, Helps With Car Jacking. Fit Vl Onwards Door Panel Where The Locks Are Out Of Site And A Bugger To Get To. Or Just Insure It For Agreed, Gio Were Great. Hannibal Sssth

if they want to get into you car, they arnt going to worry about the locks, they will just smach the window. not their car, they dont care. they will only trash it anyway. and that was coming from a cop

they're good locks but if you lose the little key you might have to smash a window to get in.

i can open vl's with a five cent coin. you dont even need a screwdriver...

get solex's, if only to deter young bastards who wanna break in and steal gauges/head unit/speakers etc...

My mates a spraypainter and told me when I asked him about solex locks that you can jam a flathead screwdriver underneath and pry it out if you use allot of force, This is a worry ( imay have to fork out for a wicked alarm & immobiliser ( i want a silent alarm that alerts me so I can go out and deal them a bruising)

Im a locksmith and i can tell you now that the solex are slightly less security than your normal key but have the HUGE disadvantage of not having a dust cover to protect the springs and pins so all the dust and sand and crap just goes straight into the lock rendering it useless after a time. Not worth the money.

Sure if someone wants to steal your car bad enough, they'll smash a window, but if u got ur car parked out the front and they smash a window u'll hear it, round locks will detour the theives away. A screwdriver behind the lock aint gonna make any difference between the locks. Just goto make sure u put them in properly. As for the original locks they just stuff up over time aswell, my mates vl doesn't even need a vl key to unlock the door, and u'll find that if u go walking the streets at night with ur vl key and decide to try unlock random vl's ur key will prob unlock 10-15% of them. I agree with dust and crap getting in them, i was stupid enough to unlock my door after being down the beach having a swim :b: got sand in it but it's still good. Only 60-70bucks for them from supercheap for the 3 set. Fuel immobilisor bout 30 bucks, im happy enough with that considering cars don't get stolen that often in rock vegas.
