stop water leaks around windscreen

the windscreen on my VL is only about 4 years old but rainwater is now leaking in
can the black plastic surrounds be removed to apply sealer? there wasnt any rust in the metal around the screen 4 years ago

is there a standard way to seal the screen?

This happend with mine it can sometimes be that the clips on the windscreen have rusted and/or you can apply some good silicon to the outside under the trim
