people seem to ask box/panel or pod a LOT...
n others say this is "better than that", "this wont be as good as this"
but what is the BEST method... to run plastic or stainless pipes? use plumbing pipes from the front bar? get pipes customised n mandrel bent?
i would have thought, running a stainless pipe from behind the bar to under the box, replacing the box with a pod, and making up a heat shield would be the best way..
yes? no?

do a search. this has been answered a few hundred times, i think youll always get the same answers. some people hate pods and will do anything to talk make pods look bad. others swear by them.
the only thing everyone seems to agree on is that a low intakae pipe thru teh front can and will pic up water, dirt, small children and animals.
small children!! lol
Half a carton and still going!!! Now thats Economy
Will it pick up chicks?
lol that would be cool.

Well with the piping, try to with something with more heat restriction and protection, stainless pipes are good also silicone piping.
bit off topic but just bout vl commodore and have 10 g to spend on the engine exuast and extratcors furst ne suggestions, also i wanna get the piping and wiring in the engine chromed and colored ne ideas or help woudl be sweet
Me personally have leaned towards the cheap plumbing pipe from bunnings and have run it under my box to the front bar easy job took me an hour and yeah all self explanitory.
I then purchased a K&N Panel filter and sealed the front snorkel hole on the front of the standard air box all sweet, noticeable amount of power, cool intake sound(only thing is u have to reset your ECU they are a self learning unit, but need a powerdown)
Helps with 3" Exhaust from Extractors right through.
Have not sucked up any small children yet but hey its on the cards :![]()

deltox. what is this about a computer reset. i didnt do that. and my pipe doesnt sit so far along as yours. cos i glued it before i put it in sort of. to make it easier. then i couldnt bend it into shape. yeh so the computer??
small children??? like a bird in a jet engine??? mess???

Hey buddy
Yeah i read on a post about a computer and ECU reset so it learns the new settings(Colder/more air) running throught the AFM. I knew they are already a self learning unit but yeah it was on a post...
I have not done it yet and my car is running like a dream...
Whats this about the pipe sitting so far along????
24 hours in a day.......24 Beers in a slab.....Coincidance???
i currently got that method on my air intake and use some old air intake pipes from a old vn from reckers using the flexy joins and wider tubes. i havnt sealed the box off yet from the original point of air intake, would this make much difference?
Dunno how much difference it'll make...it will take in more cold air because it has nowhere to escape except down the breather. However when i go to do mine ill prob leave it open, cuz im gonna get/make a cap that'll fit over the end of the pipe for those wet days.
is the rain really a problem for this setup or is it just a precaution? has anyone had water enter the engine from this?
Not that I have heard of....most people drill a little drain hole in the tubing somewhere..........
I'd take every precaution against it.. I wouldn't want water there. Your sucking in alot of air, so it doesn't take much for it to work its way up to the filter. Once the filter starts getting wet and water works its way through.. Yuck.
I still reckon the best method is to have a 90 degree bend directly under the airbox and face it towards the front of the car.. That way the only way water is going to get flicked up is from the tyre going in reverse.. Or big puddles.
I wouldn't put mesh over the end aswell, that'll just restrict it and it'd work about the same as the normal setup.
well i got mine sucking from the front and have had not one problem YET....
i have checked the state of the air filter after i have been for a drive in the heavy rain and not a worry...
Maybe its the Performance filter i am running which is dipped in oil stops the light spray
but hey
Well the best method is prob VLACS (i think) way, with the 2 x 45degree angles (that's how ill do mine). As for a hole in the back of the pipe, yes water will escape through it, but it'll prob make a loud whistling noise. Not sure as i haven't heard one yet, just thinking logically, 3mm hole with 100km+oncoming winds goin through it, u decide.
detox. my pipe sites behind the side of the grill to much cos of the way i glued the pipe together. its minor. as for water in the pipe. i dont think its a major issue. only if there is seroious rain would it be a problem. the pipe intake is in front of the wheel so its not going to get in splash from there. and the pipe is pretty sheltered. summer soon now any ways so wont have to worry about water for a while
Half a carton and still going!!! Now thats Economy
yeah nice... i havent put a water hole or anything in the pipe.I got 2 X 45degree bends the same a vlacs... the only little problem is driving behind a car on the freeway which is spraying water over your car, might intake a bit
But again i dont care.. not like im crossing a river in it and dunking the intake pipe under water too flood it..
:P:P:P
mates skyline (same engine as VL) had a cai setup with the pipe sitting in behind the front bar. worked great and sounded nice, followed a car in the wet one night. bye bye engine.
well the majority here seems to think it could b a dangerous move, but are there other methods to get more air without filling the engine with water and/or spending too much money?
Have a search though some of my posts mate..I have put 2 snorkel thingies on my air box.....lets lots more air in,and it whistles now,,,,,loool.....
geez thats a bit of a scare vlv8vic....
think i might hang back nice and far from other cars.
hmmmmmmmmm
the origional Air intake, does this do a bad job at getting air through?? has anyone actualy dynoed and found a better performance or releasing of flat spots with the use of their CAI setup appart from a louder sucking noise? are the origional pipes and holes modable? ie wider pipes u know.
and has anyone used any aftermarket pipes from the airbox to the engin??
like a shiney chrome or hightemp coated pipe made to fit the sencors and around the engin? 1 to look nice but also the plastic over the rocker must heat up a but if high temp coated this could make ur air egtting to the actual engin colder...??? yes / no??
