G'day guys, just curious if anyone here can tune a vl computer, i know a few guys can do the memcals and what not out of the newer commodores.
we've got a vl thats been converted to turbo and has a fair few aftermarket bits, but the computer cant handle the turbo injectors and just overfuels. we have a turbo computer as well, though i think it's faulty as it won't start the car at all.
cheers, any info would be sweet.
Need some parts for my VH 253:
Green standard steering wheel...Green lower B-pillar covers.
Green sunglasses holder/lower dash bits...Air-con and assorted engine bay parts.
PM with any info.
I havent heard of that many people tuning the original computer when doing the conversion. In saying that, i dont really know FA about the computers.
From what ive heard, its fairly necessary to swap computers. Mine has got a microtech and it works dam well, not sure about price etc but if no one gets back to you about tuning, aftermarket may be the way to go.
It's possible and been done before. But it's a bit of a pain because you gotta unsolder the memory chip off the actual ECU circuit board.
Go to NIStune - Nissan Realtime ECU tuning - that's an aftermarket mod for the VL ECU to allow it to be real-time tuned. It's a few hundred bucks, but welllll worth it.
otherwise, the guy "Matt" that runs the site/makes the aftermarket boards, used to do VL n/a to VLT ecu conversions - send him an email with what you want.
hopefully that puts you on the right track.
cheers guys, yeah we've been steered towards nistune. i was just curious if they could be piggy backed or tuned like memcals etc. most people have said the same thing.

talk to nackerz about the nistune bro. he will tell u how it is
yeah they can be tuned by smashing a calibration onto a 128k 28 pin DIN EPROM/eprom emulator.... there's a tuning guide on r31skylineclub wiki. but that's ages old tech. I started writing an xdf for tunerpro a while ago with addresses of the necessary maps etc... but at the end of the day, the nistune is a much better, easier, smoother and less painful way to go. If you have to buy eprom burners, chips, erasers, etc to do it the "dodgy" way, it's already a fair bite into your nistune spend- let alone if you gotta buy an eprom emulator etc.
there's actually another xdf file for tunerpro available on delcohacking.net (probably newer and more advanced than mine) if you are very keen to give it a crack, though.
If you don't want to 'tune' it and just want to run a VLT calibration - get in touch with matt from Nistune, he'll be able to burn you one onto a chip, and/or also potentially modify your ECU if you can't be bothered![]()
Hey man,
Havent been on for a bit sorry.
Yeah first off what VN_LUKE has said is one way to do it.
But I would recommend not going that way, Just a pain in the arse.
There is a whole range of ecu's you can choose from. From the bottom of the price range being a nistune (Cheap but very good) or to the top of the price range Motec and all the others (be prepaired to spend big dollars on these setups) But these are awesome.
I Had a Nistune and was also looking at Autronic SMC ECU which was going to cost $1650 brand new. Extra for fitting etc. However I was going to fit it myself being a mechanic etc. blah blah blah....
Anyways, What aftermarket gear have you got?
The Nistune goes into you stock ecu. You can either send it off to get fitted by Matt or do it yourself. I just sent mine of to Matt and it was a quick turn around and had it back pretty quick.
Matt Is a great guy and will help out heaps.
Ok so if you decide to get a nistune.....
Plug it into your car, and if you have a laptop. Then you download the software from the nistune website. NIStune - Nissan Realtime ECU tuning
Plug the cable from the ecu to your laptop. Turn the ignition on (not started) Open the program and conect. Now you can start your car and adjust anything you want. Even adjust while your car is of but the ignition on.
You can tell the ecu that you have changed:
Injectors
Air flow meter
etc etc
And then you adjust things accordingly. Its a great cheap option if you dont want to spend heaps of money and go a standalone ecu.
Oh you said your running a N/A ecu with vlt injectors??? This doesn't work. as the N/A and VLT injectors have a different pulse width. If the vlt ecu is not working well you can either get it checked out by someone or toss it.
Very rarely the ecu will shit themselves
one major killer of the ecu is a bad seal around the windscreen so water comes in and runs through the ecu and shorts things out.
Yeah thats right man, Holden made a shit decsion when making the front window seal for the vl's. If you ever replace your windscreen, its a good idea to use a vt rubber seal. This is a great upgrade to keep that pesky rust away.
