ive tried searching but wasnt successfull.
Im looking 4 a site or something that displays how many of what commodore was made eg how many vl calais's in 5.0ltr V8s 4.9tlr V8s rb30s and rb30ts.
Im asking this cause im wanting 2 find out how many vl sl wagons were made with the 5.0ltr 308, not the 4.9ltr 304 like in most of the vls. I have been told that there were only 200 vls made with the 308 in it and only 80 were wagons. Now i call bs on that until i see some sort of proof.
Also if any1 tries 2 say no vl has 308s in them from stock, i have the build sheet from my wagon with the code 4 the 5.0ltr 308 sohaha
Wrecking VL factory V8 only a few bits left still have full dash/crash pad

If its still the factory motor it will be a 304, 308's were phased out mid vk era.

ok ive just done some digging up and found a site that showes all the RIGHT codes and stuff from the build sheet, The other site i was on was missleading.
It said the LB9 engine is a 4.9ltr 304 and the LV2 engine is a 5.0ltr 308. The site i found was different and said the LB9 is a 4.9ltr PFI and the LV2 is a high compression.
Can some1 tell me the difference and what one is the better v8? Mine is the lv2 btw
on another note im still trying 2 find how many were built

LB9 is a 4.9 304, lv2 is a 4.9 high compression 304 as found in ss and others.
there were 134,795 vl's made for the domestic market good luck getting a break down of the models and numbers produced.
Nobody wants to play with me
so my wagon is and others haha. Thanks 4 that mate so the person that told me how many of my wagons were made with the lv2 motor was full of it.

Yes, jatsvl is correct.
The only known numbers are the 151,000-odd all up built, including the export cars.
There are a few limited run factory or dealer specials where the numbers are known like the V8 Opera House model, the Series 200 and the 200 Option A9Y Calais wagons from 1988 but even these might be out by a few here and there.
Any other numbers that anyone comes up with are rumour, made-up or just plain bs....and you'll get nothing out of Holden.
correct. A total w@#ker, who's brothers girlfriends uncles cousins friends stepdad works at holden and told him!
your car has been optioned, which is not uncommon you order you pay and they will build it like you want.
so your 1 car compared to 150,000 other vl's would be somewhat rare, and even though it has a high compression 4.9 304 it really wouldn't add to the value, vl's are all about TURBO, BROCK and WALKINSHAW.
Nobody wants to play with me
I rember having a OLD holden heratage book in the back of it it told you how many models were made of each car how many were shipped over seas ones that were knocked down ect ect if your that keen i would head into a holden dealer and ask for a holden heratage book i got myne free for a school project years ago prob cost ya a few bucks now if ya can still get them
that's where the numbers were quoted from, but it only lists the models and it doesn't break them down to sl, executive, berlina, sedan, wagon etc...... also you can't buy that book from holden they were only given to employees and dealers if you want one of them you would need to look on EBAY, oztion, bookshops or news paper classifieds.

308"s came out in VL's,I have a 1988 Calais block with 308 on it,the crank measurements say so too.
The rules werent brought into play until 1988.

Why does my block say 308 and the measurements on the crank say so aswell.
Engine is out of a Calais that #"s matched engine wise.I have the pictures in one of my for sale adds.
No need to shout either, you sound like my father.Trust me,you dont want to sound like him lol.Maybe next time say"What makes you say that bloke"or something?
Edit:Man I cant beleive the respect or lack of given on this forum of late, people need to read what they type before posting and speak normally to oneanother. Its not hard.
FFS - Mid way thru the VK run Holden de-stroked the engine slightly from 308 ci to 304 ci in order to get the swept engine volume under 5000 cc. The point of this was because the Group A rules badly penalized any car over 5000 cc with substantial extra weight. From memory this happened early 1985 and from there on all 5 litres had the smaller stroke.
After the 1985 Bathurst timing chain issue, Holden engaged HDT to build 500 "evolution" commodores to homologate parts for racing. These included different intake manifold, exhaust headders, timing chain, roller rockers, body kit and other misc bits and pieces. This car became the VK SS Group A. There were a few SS Group A/3's built with 5 speed T5G gearboxes, 16" wheels and other luxury touches. They were also blue.
If you have a 308ci VL the car the motor or crank has been replaced at some stage. I have no idea what rules you are talking about from 1988.

i should've just gone outside and played. much you like disputing the truth... should've just gone outside and played.
Unfortunately, your wrong karlos. Reaper covered it all.
Commodorenut sent me a info thing detailing everything a few years back, but it was on my old email, so thats lost in cyber heaven now (probably for the best since the info would probably just get stolen and claimed as someone elses)
All factory VLs with the V8 are definately 304s (all carby unless you count HSVs), and the 2nd half of VKs are too (my old VK Berlina wagon was a factory 304)

Drongo.
I must be one of the lucky ones, too. I have a copy in mint condition of the eigth edition, that was issued to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Holden. The book was printed in January 1988. And it only refers to the 4.9 litre V8 for the VL, as those of us who know the truth would already know. I think we know who the tosser is.
