Thumbs down vl speedo and tacho

Hey guys have just tried to install a calais tacho dash into a vl turbo. For some reason the tacho and speedo isnt working.

I think that the plug is stuffed behind the speedo (doesnt matter because i have aftermarket gearbox, diff and rims so speed is out anyway). Anyone know the name of the plug or line that connects to the speedo in the rear of dash (male circular plug).

As far as why the tacho is stuffed i got no idea. From what i can gather, all the wiring should already be in the place in the brown plug that came out of the original dash. Do the tacho's have a common fault that may be fixable ( i may have bought a dud unit ) or am i missing wiring components?

Any info appreciated as i am sick of having no tacho.

Tacho is driven by the coil so check the small "T" Plug at the coil. or give the Dash a Smack this fixes sticky needle
As for Speedo does the speedo drive cable from gearbox turning while driving?

Hey mate will give the dash a smack and see what happens.

Great idea driving without the dash to check the speedo drive cable. Does it make a difference if the inner prong(male part) of the speedo drive cable is extended or pushed in? Was dam tricky getting the cable into the back of speedo due to big hands and little dash. May have put too much pressure on the end of the speedo drive cable resulting in a ballz up!

will let you know how i go, cheers for the info

yeah the cable is slightly sloppy man... the speed cable will go in only one way as in has a locator on it... this was a mungrel for me as well but after a few goes will get it.
    Try not to damage it...
If the cable is turning and its not working while plugged in it could be the nylon gear that has stripped its teeth in the Speedo.. this is another common problem on 22 year old Dash Clusters.

I find it easier to undo the speed cable at the gearbox end and pull some through so you have a little slack to work with. Put the dash back and reconnect it.
