hi here i have a 253 red motor and have recently put on a 4 barrel mainfold dont know of what model every other bolt lines up and water jackets line up but the 2 centre bolts dont exist as the bolt hits the into the head is this a major problem ??? is it the wrong mainfold ??? thanks for anyone to give me some advise![]()
If the bolt holes aren't in the heads then it won't matter.
Is it a red manifold?
Is the manifold a Performer?
If there are provissions for drilling another hole then go ahead,I had to do this on my blue motor.
I think he means there is no holes in the head.
Fug drilling and tapping cast iron.
i think he means the egr crossover is not there=cant use that manifold.
Sikaflex bruuuuuzzzzz
It sounds like the heads aren't the type for use with a cross-over style manifold. you can still use the manifold. just means it gets no extra heat from the exhaust cross-over. that's not a bad thing really as a hot intake = less power![]()

pretty cool. the valley will leak into the crossover and bleed out the egr port if not sealed properley. so yeah, one more breather hey?
yer brand new gaskets and half tube silicone has went into it i dont know what the mainifold is of unfortanantly nah its not a performer its just a stock one of 308 got it of a mate for free so thort i would chuck it on so does this mean my car should still drive fine but??? thanks for the help yeah drilling into cast iron head dont sound the best of fun as i havnt got much paitence lol
What? they valley isn't pressurised so why would it leak into the cross-over? if your worried about the trapped air in the cross-over forcing past the gasket (when heated) then drill into the cross-over somewhere from the top so that it can't pressurise.
if i owned a engine with a cross-over style manifold (like my performer manifold) i'd go to the trouble of blocking it . in my case, using a TP dual plane manifold (which doesn't have the cross-over) solves that problem for me![]()

sweet sounds good thnaks for all your help anwyay see how it goes when its started im sure im about to run into more issues haha
Did your heads have the horse shoe shaped port in the centre?
If so then not running the centre bolt it will leak.
Sounds like you have a red motor and you are trying to fit a blue or black motor manifold, they are not interchangeable without major mods.
Other issues you might have is silicon blocking oil galleries if it slips into the valley.
FYI there are two red motors, pollution and non pollution. One has the EGR port in the centre and one does not.
