g'day guys, tried everything to get these f@#$%&! ball joints out, anyone know why they wont come out???
out of the arm or out of the knuckle
out of the stub axle mate, i pressume thats what your refering to as the knuckle???
thats because ball joints are a tapered fit usually 7 or 10 degrees this is so they dont come out what you need is a tool called a ball joint seperator and a big ####ing hammer

if you canot get these out how are you going to change the ball joints you will require a press
it would be cheaper to replace the whole arms as you probaly need new bushes to you can get the arms for about 140 each new bushes and ball joints and they just blot straight in and are made of 5mm plate not 4
i only ever use a balljoint seperator on say the bmw inner ball joint but one of the guys at work broke it so i just hit them in a certain spot and they pop out
if you get a stuborn one get a mate with a crow bar to lever down on it and smack it then
most tapers you hit the knuckle around the tapper but with vb-vp you need to hit the arm down with the lower inner bolt in
try and hit as close to the joint as posible
lol, dudes i tried that! used ball joint sepporator, then got a pulley puller and put a heaps of pressure on it and used the balljoint sepperator, then i thought i'd use a bigger hammer and used an 8 pound sledgy, then i tried the crowbar trick with a sledgy
what do you mean by that mate??most tapers you hit the knuckle around the tapper but with vb-vp you need to hit the arm down with the lower inner bolt in try and hit as close to the joint as posible
also, im replacing the tie rod ends, ball joints, all the the bushes.
i mean on the older commos you dont hit the knuckle you hit the arm
all i can say is what i get told at work try harder
thanks mate, ill give it a go![]()
if theyre that stubborn hitting the lower control arm down is a good way but make sure the car is secure. it'll also have to be still bolted into the k frame. I prefer a ball joint seperator less chance of damaging anything bar the ball joint i never had a problem using one but some people have had experiences like you
