    Default Distributor Picture

I'm just wondering if someone can provide a link to a cut away sectionalized view of a distributor.

The Vl Dizzy I pulled out the other day has a washer just above the bearing which is loose and wearing away the dizzy shaft. I'm trying to find out if it's normal wear or if I'll have to replace the complete distributor.

Has anyone rebuilt a distributor that had a scoring to the shaft?

Should I buy a new dizzy?

spins and spins and spins and spins and spins. its called a dizzy after its name, the distributer, funnily enough not because it spins.

you have a coil VLACS, it turns battery power into an almighty spark, it goes through a thick lead to the dizzy, which spreads the almighty spark into 6 shared almighty sparks, through some more leads, to the tops of your sparkplags. instant nissan power! (witha few other bits and pieces to make the thing move...)

The going price for a Dizzy for an RB30 in working condition varies heaps but I got one off Ebay for $61.40. It was a heap of crap and water effected so they sent me another one which was beaut. I bought 2 new bearings one for the dizzy in the VL and one for the Ebay item. The bearings cost about $6 each new and they have solved my long long problems.

The spare dizzy came with a CAS, and Power transistor plus all the other bits and pieces so I'm stoked that I've got some spares.

VL dizzy - can be a real head ache - I have 4 in the shed - one works

Two types of Crank Angle Sensors
ACA - these are black and when the engine heats up they retard the timing and the engine cuts out - great to keep you busy playing cars for 6 months - I did this from Oct 05 to Apr 06 - that is how I came to be a member of the forum

Fueltronics (I think is the name)
These are the best - same price as ACA
    About 100 bucks

The cas can be replaced and the dissy still not work

There is a bearing that gives of dust and interfers with the signal from the cas.

The cost of the cas kit (cas and bearing) is about 160 bucks.
The cost of an exchange dissy from I think called bedco at lidcombe sydney is 200 bucks.

I did the exchange dissy for 200 bucks and the car has not stopped since.

A mechanic can play with the ACA and not diagnose anything for as long as you want at 45 bucks and hour. Even if a EFI special puts in a ACA then he may move onto the fuel system and other systems thinking that the dizzy is not the problem.

So I decided the cost of owning a car with a RB30DE would be $200 bucks and then on a long trip I would not be stranded for two days while a specialist replaced the cas.

The exchange dizzy took me 10 minutes to change on the car - I marked the rotor relative to the dissy and the dissy relative to the engine block

I should have read the post a bit better.

If the engine works with the dizzy as is I would leave it. They are temperamental to being rebuild - as I mentioned before I have 4 in the shed that should work but don't.

The dizzy I have one my white VL I got from the a person wrecking a car in the trading post for 30 bucks
