Hi Guys,
Just got my car back from an 18month project today and its a beast..
Got a T5G gearbox which I bought from a wreck, the Brock version, and all the gears are beautiful and they go in with no sounds at all.. except 1st gear.. when I am not moving and I go to put the stick into 1st gear, there is a "wirring" sound... i only get it when the car is not in motion.. coming down to first at spped or going up it is quiet... and the wirring stops when the car starts to take off.. if I back out to Neutral and have another go it will go in sometimes..
I am thinking clutch plate?
Sounds like the good old thrust bearing to me.
second that the thrust bearing or the throwout
Thanks for your input guys![]()
it may quieten as it wears itself in
Thanks Harry,
I spoke to the guy who built my engine and he said the same thing.. he said give it a bit of time a treat it with some TLC and it may wear itself in... he said as the gearbox had been sitting around for nearly 2 years in my shed it could just be a bit stiff.
hope so.. if not gearbox out and may as well do your clutch as well :P
yeah well i hope not but if i do i do.. the clutch though was brand new 3 weeks ago when we did the conversion so hoefully just a box rebuild if need be.
Its possible you got a dodgy thrust bearing, it does happen i have one in my ute but i CBF to take it all apart again to replace it.
all i can say is... fix it while u can... it will let go and damage something.
Much like a bearing on your rollerblade :P.......
U r scooting along and ur bearing shits the gear what happends???
Scraping face of the pavement....
Ha
