when u have got the auto box out of the car remove the flex plate from the rear of the motor and lay it ontop of the manual box. ensure that all the holes line up correctly especially the starter motor bolts. you may need to slot the holes in the flexplate to let the bolts go through properly. its a f*ck up to do it when its all in the car. trust me have been caught out before. have done the auto to manual conversion a few times so if u got any dramas give me a yell
im about to do a 5sp manual conversion, have tail shaft, box, clutch plates ect everything i need bar a shifter how long and how difficult is it to put the actual clutch pedal in?? also lacking compression in back two cylinders any help/ideas? im pulling the motor out all in one hit any extras i should look at while it out?
Hello I have a VL and I'm converting it to manual but I took my auto out but then I wanted to start it so I tried to put my flex plate and bell housing and then my starter motor back on but my car still won't turn over everything turns on when I turn the ignition on but when I go to start it nothing happens need help please
I'd done an auto to auto, about 2 weeks ago in the VL that was my brothers that I now own. Replaced the stuffed factory auto with a good one from an 89' skyline. Only had to change the speedo setup and rear engine mount and it was then a direct fit. Also put in new front and rear oil seals as well as a new filter at the same time. Doing the job was quite time consuming as it was a first time for me with this sort of engine, but I did take the centre console out along with the shift and put a long sturdy piece of water pipe there and used a ratched tie-down thingey that's used to hold down things on trailers to winch the gearbox up. Also had to use one at the front and connected that to the top of the motor. Took a lot of strain off em doing it that way as there would have been no other way of me getting the gearbox in on my own. Only took about 5-10 minutes to get the gearbox lined in that way. The rest was just bolting everything back together, and also put in a couple of new rubber hoses for the transmission lines that go into the radiator.
If you have troubles trying to line up the gearbox because of the weight, it might actually be a good idea to get a couple of those ratchet tie-downs. Wasn't sure if they'd work but they actually done the trick quite nicely. If i've ever gotta do another gearbox again, i'll definately be doing it that way.
Cheers!
Jim.
I'm assuming that you've also taken out the t-shift right? If you have, then you've removed the purple ignition wire switch by disconnecting the t-shift. Where the shift was, there is 2 thick purple wires. Either splice those back together or hook up the shift wiring back together!
Cheers!
Jim.
p/n safety switch is internal to the trans/on the side where the selector joins, one of those plugs you undid is the missing link from the key to the starter motor, i'd tell you which wires they are but apparently some cows have eaten them all down to the trans housing... and i thought i had stored in a safe place
btw the manual and auto wiring looms are different.
but i must know, why are you trying to start it with no transmission?
