Default Putting VL in storage, what 2 do 2 stop decay

im gonna be leaving the car in storage for about 6 months while i go south for work, was wondering if it was a good idea to run it outta gas so it cant turn bad in the tank or whatever it does and just take the battery out cos by the time i get back it just would have run flat anyway. Is there much benefit to that and what else should i do?

    This is what I did
Fill the petrol tank - this stops air oxidising the inside of the tank (this is normally for storage over a year or more)
Clean all the inside lips under the bonnet.
    Vacuum the boot.
Clean all the seats with some detergent - gets the dead skin out
    I buy a car cover.
I stray all the electrical plugs to prevent rather than repair corrosion.
I would not leave it on grass.
I would leave it in an old farm shed as these heat up and are dry places.

    I disconnect battery.
I check the jack and spare tyre.
I buy a 20 dollar compressor that runs on the battery so that when I return I can pump the tyres up.

Cool, yer il hopefully have it in a garage and i bought a car cover today. Ive heard that petrol can turn jelly like if its kept in the tank too long...? is condensation likely to build up inside the car interior as it goes from cold to hot alot here..

A couple of moisture abosrbant bucket things would work wonders, one in the boot and one in the cabin. It's also not a bad idea to double the oil level so that the bearings are soaked and thus won't rust. Just remember to change the oil when it comes out of storage.

Where do you get those moisture absorbent bucket things? I've seen them around before and I need one (or about 80) for my boot. Thanks.

I work at a self storage place, and we used to do cars - not any more, too many complaints! Some ideas... may sound like common sense, but we had some pretty stupid people

    1. your battery will be flat when you go to start it (probably)

    2. make sure no animals can get in anywhere - you dont want to see an engine bay after a car has been started with a posum in there

    3. clean it first - otherwise things become permanent (ie bird shit stains)

    4. car cover is a good idea, it'll stop any fade, and also bugs getting into the car. I dont know how they do it, but they do

Thats all I got now... If people ask me if we store vehicles, I tell them that if they can store it, they dont need it, and if they do store it, it wont be worth it. Since yours in on private property (?) I guess its a bit different.

Also, I'm in Sydney, and people were paying over $100 a month to store, some for up to 2 years! and when they get back, we give them the keys to a rust bucket that doesnt work - great way to blow $2400, and a car!

i think if it is going to sit for about a year i would personally leave windows down a bit and put it on stands so dont get flat spots on tyres
