Im still without my vl, since 14th august after doing the head, got it towed to the mechs (i wasn't there at the time), bro was suppose to drive it in but couldn't get it started (previously his car) it's all back together now, mech spent half of today trying to get fuel to engine, $$$$ immobiliser was on. Waste of time there i could of had it back today, but now timing is out. I hear in all the mod threads about advance timing what is that, is it a matter of adjusting it properly, if so will the mech do it properly. Or is something you buy and install for better timing???
I have been without my VL since 2nd august.
Getting new turbo and manifold fitted.
Car finally fired up last weekend, only to have turbo leaking oil.
So back off it comes for a rebuild.
I love to spend money...lol
I have been without my vl for ... I don't know, what seems like 3 months. And I won't have it back to drive for maybe another 2.
The mechanic will just put timing back onto stock. Unless you tell him otherwise.
Do you mind telling me where you took it?
Advance timing applied to the later model skylines becuase i heard something about the timing was ever so slightly retarded at the factory becuase of jappa KW regulations, but i dont know if it would apply to the VL engines becuse the cars were assembled in australia
Well i got the beast back today...got it home, dropped the sub in it; blew the fuse in a matter of minutes, but when i started it up she started off pretty rough, picked up to normal. Louder and runs alot better than previously. Exhaust is still rattling like shit. What's the go with the bleed bolts for the radiator, i cant find em, read the forum on em but i can't see em, want to check if it was properly blead, dont want this head cracking, 1600 dollars worth. Which is ok considering they spent 30 hours on it. It was also filled up with water, not coolant gonna have to find out y. Replacement head and 3core radiator. It went to TAG cuz my mum works there. Is changing the timing a difficult opperation or pretty simple?
You'll need a timing light. It's probably easiest just swinging into a mechanic and making up some excuse about how you think your timing is wrong and if he could have a quick look at it. If you go to a quiet little mechanic you should be right. Or any of the guys at TAG.
I'd get photo's of the bleed bolts but I don't even have an engine.. Umm, let me see whats on my hard drive. Basically ones on the top of the plenum, they should both have japanese stickers saying don't open when hot. I'll look though.
Good to hear you got it back, mine is still a week or 2 away.
I'm catching you with the dates to have the car back.
mine always seems to attract gremlins.
I just want it back before oct 16th
What's special bout 16 Oct?Originally Posted by rb26dett
Well i found the little sticker saying do not open when hot, it's next to the yellow plug thing, i believe the bleed screw is behind that yellow plug??? Only prob is that it looks like it's not there :b: looks snapped offBut that is the only 1 I can see, where is the other located?
Here you go mate... Ignore the huge amount of dirt going on there.. Just realised I'm going to do alot of cleaning while its out.. Heres a pic though
