Gday Ive just bought another vl rb30 na, it idles great but when u drive it, it has a massive flat spot and feels like its running out of fuel.
I have replaced plugs and leads, checked fuel filter, checked fuel pump volume (1litre in 30secs approx), cas looks good all clean, swapped airflow meter, checked all engine bay plugs and connectors, checked exhaust for blockages, plenty of fuel in tank.HELP!!!
I drove it about 200km to get it home its max speed before missing about 90km/h best fuel economy i`ve got in a while!
THANKS. Neil
vls come standard with no power
You're full of genius posts.
Checked the timing??
LOL
Mate clean out your throttle body and intake runners. when i had an N/A i did all what u have done to rectifly the problem with no luck.
So Check your timing as stated should be 15Degress Factory.
Take of your plenum and throttle body and get it Clean as u can. i bet its gummed up with blow-by. u can get this off in about 10 mins.
U will need another gasket for the plenum to intake runners join.
And hows your Air Filter.???
Goodluck let us know.
Thanks for ur advice,The airfilter is clean, the car was a clean vehicle but I will check intake runners etc, feels like fuel starvation so I will be looking at injectors etc, maybe pull the fuel pump out of the tank and check filter/strainer?
I might also check fuel pres but have to make up guage fitting for fuel line.
Keep the ideas coming!
Thanks Neil.
I have removed the low pres pump, the gauze filter was fuul of lint, I have ordered a pump and in line filter.
Im going to remove the tank and drain it to see what crap is in there!
Wish me luck!
Neil.
GOOD LUCK!!
when you are cleaning the tank out do not bang it around to much, the fuel return pipe is spot welded (not very well) inside to the top of the tank and if you break the weld it will drop down into the swirl pot and make a bubble sound in your fuel which can be quite annoying after a while and it gets louder the lower your fuel level goes.
also while you have got the tank out replace all the fuel vapour hoses, chances are they are all brittle and possibly broken, saves you doing it later on.
once again good luck and let us know if you solve your issue.
Nobody wants to play with me
ha i got the same bloody prob sumthing to do with sparrk maybe mine was doin the same n than it jst stopd and wuldnt kik ova again cos its getn no spark ive changed the dizzy the coil chekd plugs leads etc ive head this a common prob with vls but cant find a solution any 1 cheeerz
the new filter bag needs to be the same shape and position as the old one or it will hit the side of the plastic swirlpot so the internal pump wont sit down in swirlpot but stay higher, causing fuel sloshing noises and the car to run out of petrol sooner
goodness knows how to replace the internal rubber hose to swirlpot which can break in half
inspect weld that holds both halves of tank together as leaks can happen
I have got the tank out (Prick of a job) when I lowered it I noticed all the anti polution hoses are broken! would this affect the engine?
Fuel pump I bought from autopro is slightly different to original, Its a pain in the arse living in the country and buying bits over the phone and paying frieght only to find the parts are different!
Wish me luck, Neil.
Tanks back in with a new low pres pump, replaced fuel filter and the bloody thing still has a starvation problem(feels like its running out of fuel if you accellerate hard) next thing is to check fuel pres reg and MORE electronics!!!
Neil
It prob wouldnt hurt to get ur injectors checked out either, mite need sonic cleaning or whatever its called lol
I had this problem with my sedan which I drove for 3 years, I discovered if you turn the key and allow the pump to prime for the 7secs that it does, then when it stops, you can start the car and it will drive normally, if you start the car while it is priming it will only accelerate upto 2000rpm and then flatspot, I posted this several yrs ago and all the answers that I got were
1. fuel pumps
2. cas
3. afm
4 coil, leads and plugs.
I replaced all with new and the problem still existed.
I remember someone else asking about this and I think they solved it but never posted the fix, I think it had something to do with the throttle body position switch/sensor.
sorry I can't be more help.
Nobody wants to play with me
Thanx Yes I suspect the throttle position switch maybe at fault, I have removed it but cant see what to do with it, I might refit it and try the car again?
Neil.
vacuum leaks? fuel reg, air reg(on plenum)
TPS which u r looking at try another though.
u could b overlooking something as u r saying checked
may look fine visually but is failing get me?
I have bought another vl(damaged) that runs ok, I swapped the tps over and the problem has gone!!! it runs ok but a bit flat as the revs get up? I will now check timing etc.
not sure if the tps is set in the right spot is it easy to adjust(idles ok)
Neil.
