    Default engine cutting out when cruising+under high load

    My '87 VL has been missing badly over the last week. What happens is that when crusing on the h'way (120km/h) or flooring it too the floor either from a standing start or moving the car jerks with the rev meter jumping from 3500rpm+ down to zero then back up. Its like the car dies then sort of 'recatches' and carries on going. This problem is more common when accelerating really hard.

    Have taken it to the auto-electrician with a suspicion that maybe it was a problem with the ignition system - bad leads, distributor, coil, dud plugs, CAS. He suggested 'starting with the cheapest solution' and get the fuel filter replaced which I thought odd but this has never been changed so it couldn't hurt. No change after replacing it. Took car back to him, he found no problems with the CAS, leads, plugs or dizzy. He couldn't find the problem :b: He suggested the coil could be causing it but I've replaced this now and still the same behaviour.

    I will admit this could be something related to the fuel system - dud fuel pump, fuel pressure low etc. Could it be something else? Could it be the ECU? Has anyone had this problem with their VL?

    I'd say maybe vacuum leak at the inlet mainfold or vacuum hoses, maybe clogged air filter

    Was the distributor. I should have known it. When the car would cut out/miss the tachometer would fall to 0 which is connected to the dizzy. He found the problem after the car finally started playing up on a long 2nd test run. Was a weird problem. Went through the hands of 2 mechanics and an auto electrician.

    $210 for a reco'd dizzy +$250 deposit for broken dizzy (if its repairable u keep the dep if not byebye monay)so in essence an exchange.
