    Default My new VL!

    *************NEW PICS AT THE TOP!!!!!!!!!!!************

So I finally got my 87' VL LS but my net ran out and I have to wait until it re-caps, but i'm at my folk's place using their interwebz so i'll post up a couple of pics I managed to take before this epic rain started. It's a typical 1987 VL LS Commodore, has a few things done to it from the previous owner such as lowered Pedders Suspension, 17 inch SS rims painted satin black, bumpers have been painted black as have the badges, and also the seats have been re-trimmed, ummm oh also 6x9's in the parcel shelf (Really dodgy I might add), and also a JVC head unit w/ USB + iPod compatibility. No speakers in the front though I had to get a new tip welded on the exhaust as the old one seems to have broken off, so I got a standard piece of 2" pipe welded on but i'm scouring the market for either headers, or a 2 1/4" cat-back system, though I don't know if any exhausts can be used from other models. My mechanic reckons it's the cleanest & best conditioned one he's seen, and he's seen a fair few come by. Only 160,000 on the ticker, too!

    Piccies:

Just quietly, you need to rotate the front wheels left to right, your currently driving on directionals on backwards.. i can imagine it feels a bit odd in the front end

only that that,Nice clean vl matey!

nice kms for a vl. its a SL not a LS commodore to just to say. as already said id either colour code the bumper or go silver. and either rip the badges off or hit them with a white marker to make them stand out more.

hey mate, looks really clean. Is it auto or manual? I'd have to agree with everyone else on the silver bumpers though. Also food for thought. Some calais tailights would look good. I hate the look of the sl/executive ones. And just paint your garnish black instead of getting a calais one or get a calais one if you like. I just have the calais tailights with a gloss black garnish and it looks good

I just had a look at my tyres and the arrows are all pointing forwards :/ But to answer a few questions, yeah it's had a respray, looks pretty decent unless you look really close lol but half the time she's too dirty to notice :P Sorry about getting SL mixed with LS haha, I was using my phone at the time. I've thought about respraying the bumpers, I might have to do a quick photoshop to see how it would look with either silver or same-colour bumpers.

Also, my mate has a set of Calais tail lights for me next time he's down from Ipswitch so i'll be putting them on as he bought some new ones to black out and doesn't want the other pair

AUTO OR MANUEL! Would look much better silver rather then brown imo mate. Also if your getting the lights for free and if there are in good condition your saving yourself $100+ , Paint your garnish black if you get the tailights aswell, will look much better then grey. You could buy a calais rear garnish but it will have calais written on it. So its up to you :thumbs up: goodluck and keep us updated man

Not being rude but as per this pic... The front left tyre/rim should be on the right hand side I think?

    Other than that not bad

Is there any way to remove the "Calais" from the calais garnish?

I think you can take it off but the strips don't continue behind the badge. If your getting it for free definatly take it, brand new ones go for somthing stupid like 160 bucks just for the garnish. If your not getting the garnish for free i wouldnt buy one unless you get a good deal

Oh yeah, yeah I guess it'll look good with the new lights even if the garnish doesn't come with it. Either way i'm not too fussed just yet about the way it looks, though if an offer comes up i'll take it :P

Yeah i'm getting Midnight Express tint from tint-a-car as my girlfriend works at Supercheap Auto and they get mega discounts, like i got quoted $350 for midnight express but her boss said if I book through supercheap with her discount, it'd end up being $272

As for plans, pretty much the repainted bumper/garnish, apart from that i'm not too sure yet, going from a 1.8 Silvia coupe to a 3.0 sedan still makes me appreciate the power, although I think alot of you will argue 3.0 is still weak :P But yeah, no idea so far, there's a few things I want to fix, like the window inserts (Can't remember the name of them, the rubbers that the windows slide up inside the door frame) because they're all retarded, maybe paint the drums in the rear & also look into a rear disc conversion if it's worth while, i've already got a new steering wheel out of my ute so i'm waiting on the boss kit from Autobarn so I can fit it, stupid bus drivers wheel lol, oh and also a new parcel shelf cos' mines rooted Speaking of which, anyone got any ideas on the parcel shelf as the stock one isn't plain flat, it sort of goes up at the rear (under the winsow), so if I just cut the same shape into MDF or Masonite, will it still fit or will there be gaps anywhere?

Also, I have taken more pics I swear haha just too lazy to get my iPhone cable and upload them :P I will though!

Oh and also my bonnet release lever cable thing is stretched so when I "pop the hood" yo dawg homie someone has to be pushing down at the front of the car otherwise it doesn't release, but I think the cable just needs replaced inside.

I heard there were different series engines made for these cars, like a 1 and a 2 or something, and it's possible to have a series 2 NA with the same connection points for installing a turbo as a stock turbo one?

the parcel shelf cut out of mdf will sit nicely just under the rear windscreen rubber with out any gaps, they work pretty well, if you cover them with some material they look good too. you can bolt them down using the child restraint anchors in the rear shelf.
your bonnet catch may just need oiling to make it work properly, or adjust it up or down - lift the bonnet up and look at the large locking pin (with the spring around it) it has a slot in the end of it, that you place a large flathead screw driver in and turn it, you can tighten it or loosen it depending on the adjustment required, adjust it one way it will become easier or harder to open it and vise versa, when adjusting it either way you will need to keep checking the hieght of the bonnet to top of the nosecone.

Mr_VX, if for example, mine was a series 2, how hard is a turbo install? If you know, of course haha
