    Default vl diff question

    hey guys,
i have a drum brake diff under my vl now,i have just brought a vl disc brake diff of a pretty Dodge bloke,
just wanted to know if any one has put disc brakes etc straight onto the drum diff do they just swap straight over?
or am i better of putting in the new diff?
    thanks.

dude i did the same thing kinda. i had drums and found a v8 vk diff and it took less then a day to put it in my car..........only prob i had was tail shaft but if urs is from a vl then u wont have that prob. i just swap the whole diff over heaps easier. after u disconnect the hand brake cable and undo the shocks and tail shaft its only about 4 or so bolts and its out. keep in mind u will need to swap ur hand brake cable over to disk brake one as they are different

Gday, i have also just done a similar swap, changed a drum setup to a disc, you will also need the handbrake cable that goes with the disc brake setup, the drum brake cable ends are similar, but wont mount up and one will be longer than the other.

Bolt on fit. Best brake mod I did on mine. The difference on mine was incredible.

Couple of things you need to do tho.

First, buy a couple of caliper overhaul kits from repco or where ever you want to get that type of stuff and service the calipers (including the slides) You don't know what condition those calipers are in. One of mine happened to be siezed.

Second, you'll need to source a VN/VP 15/16ths brake master cylinder from a wrecker (and also run an overhaul kit through that too - change all the seals) as that will remove the drum preasure valve that'll be in your stock setup.

Wouldn't worry too much about the handbrake cable as that can be made to fit and function so long as you just want it for parking!

    Cheers,
    Adam.
