hey guys, my high beams used to work fine then one day all of a sudden they turned off along with the headlights, no problems tried to pull em back on the high beams flashed but this time the headlights stayed on.... in short this is what happens,
if i want high beams i have to hold the lever back, but when i dont want them anymore i have to let the lever go then pull it back again to a click (this is because the headlights turn off with the highbeams :b: ) and leave it to get the headlights back on.... possible damaged clockspring!?
anyone else had a problem like this
before anything else check that the wires to the neg terminal of your battery are all tight and connecting properly, and that the bat is charged and healthy. bad earth can cause high beam issues (among 412 other problems.)
a common problem with two common remedies.
1 - fuses melt and blow. can cause all sort of creepy things to happen. check and if they are melted replace with inline fusing.
2 - its in the swtich. also very common. if the fuses are fine chances are its the switch. if you can get another one to test first thats ideal. i have one here if your anywhere near warrnambool. one from wreckers may or may not last. always a gamble. if you get a new one get genuine. they are well worth the extra cost.
same happend to me last week was just a fuse now they are fine![]()

cheers guys!
Same thing has happened to me, the fuse blew everytime i hit high beams, holding it back for the highbeams must still run off the headlight fuse cuz they worked when held back, but when let go only the parkers worked. Went to check out the problem the next day or so, put a new fuse in and it worked, but now when i hit high beam i loose my drivers side headlight and highbeam, only parker worked on that side and all worked on the other???? This problem is still in session and has been for almost 2 months, would it just be some sort of wiring problem? Or in the lever, new fuse rail has been inserted.
Had the same problem in my vl, it was a fuse that had melted together and not making contact. cut the old fuse out and replaced it with new holder and fuse and works fine.
Well after about 2 months now, of only having 1 high beam light working, i decided to pull the fuse out put it back in and move the terminal wires a bit (on sat when installing k&n panel) go for a drive tonight, heading into town flick the high beams and wala there fine, must have something to do with something :P
yeh thats one of the problems i probably wont get around to for a little while now i know what it is though.... that fuse melted my fuse rail! everything else works again though.... and to be honest with the VL being my daily driver now that the Honda is off the road.... i dont go anywhere once i get home from work and the weekend.... well lets just say... i got a short walk to and from the pub.... Im happy!!
thanks for the help guys.... ill let you know when i do get around to fixing it!
