keep the vl and part it out ?
do the swap for the turbo ?
Hi all im wrecking a vl commodore berlina and have been offerd a orignal to3 turbo [nothing but the turbo] for a swap should i ?
heres some info on the car,
minispool
clean cream intereor no rips or cutouts in door trims or rear deck
power windows
power mirrors
rpm cluster with 179,000kms
motor has warped head
sunglasses holder ect ect ect
pics are linked in my sig
i wouldnt theyre $300 brand new on ebay and youll make a hell of alot more than that wrecking the vl.
Um, the car is worth about $500 maybe $750 if you wreck it probably more....
The turbo could have blown seals and need a rebuild ($500ish) or worse.
Definitely don't swap.
Well im going to go the other way. If it's in good condition (turbo that is) then i wouldnt straight away so no. If the vl is no use to you at all, and if you live out in the sticks who is going to buy all of the parts. Yes its worth all of that money in parts but you have to find people willing to pay for it. And trust me thats hard enough in a a city.
So, if the turbo is in good condition and you live in the middle of no where and its no use to you as parts, Swap it
If You live in a biggish area and know that vl parts are sought after and you can line up buyers for the parts. Don't swap it
im kinda with u skid bro as i do live out in the sticks how can i check too see if the turbo is any good? ive checked the shaft n theres bugger all play but what else should i look 4 he has sweetend up the deal with 17" mags too so im realy thinking about it
minimum side to side movement is fine but also check back and forward play thats the killer when buying turbos
I really dont think the turbo conversion is worth swapping a vl for. keep the vl and fix it up. you know half the time vl's are stripped for parts the shell goes to scrap metal. people are doing this all the time. no good
i still have my berlina i took parts i needed and ended up doing the swap, ended up with a nice set of mags too, and 88-SERIES200 yea i know ive scrapped a few myself, but the berlina will soon be a calias mockup as the person i sold/swaped it too has a smashed calias and wants to put his running gear in it cheers ppl,
if i post some piccys of the turbo could you's get a idear on what condition its in? dont wanna waist $ on the extras i need if this turbo is knackerd
Used T3s are worth $200 bucks max. Rebuild kits are only 70 bucks and its simple as.
