Hi, I'm having issues with my 86 VL!
Was driving the other day and it started to lose power and then eventually just conked out on me.
Tried to restart but got nothing from it really, it turns over and ya can hear it wants to do something but hasn't quite got it.
After a couple of hours i got it on the trailor and got it home.
Tried to start it and, bam! It started! BUT, then just died out again....... >
Have tried almost everything we can think of.
Put the multi metre on the fuel pump and seems that there is no power getting to it?
Have also checked fuses and relays.
Can anybody PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE help me?
I NEED my car!
Were you low on fuel? If so, did you check your fuel filter? If you had fuel check it anyway, might be clogged. Try disconnecting your battery for 10 seconds and re-connect. Try also tracing the lines back under the car, might be a hard /annoying task but there could be a fault in the wiring somewhere under the car.
Also, maybe your fuel pump is just dead, unless it's been replaced recently.

could be a fuel pump or,
sounds like a crank angle sensor, they seem to just stop and sometimes when they cool down will start for a short time then stop again.
take your dizzy cap off, rotor off and the silver backing plate off to see if there is a build up of the red dust of death in around the cas.
Nobody wants to play with me
the silver backing plate is fragile so dont bend it
also dont replace it the wrong way around
another possibility is a rubber section of fuel line that kinks shut when warm and opens or unkinks when cool
tried another air flow meter? usually if they go you can start it and it will idle but conk out as soon as you go to accelerate, just a thought
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
Yeah I second that with the air flow meter, one my Silvia I put a pod filter on it and made a custom bracket and forgot to plug the sensor in and my car would fire up but die after a few seconds and when I checked under the hood i saw my meter wasn't plugged it, so maybe yours is dead

Sounds exaxctly like what happend to mine,
I had some moisture in the dizzy.
Just take apart the dizzy and wipe it out and leave it in the sun.
well thats what fixed mine anyway..
Lowerd O.G Cruiser
^^ yeah that too didnt even think of that, pretty much every VL ive owned had a shot dizzy seal when i bought it

vl's are a problem..........fullstop
i would bet money on it being a crank angle sensor issue.
fuel pump priming?give the fuel pump a good bashing.
similar problem kept happening in my vn aero i would just have to tap the fuel pump
