thats a little pricey from what I've heard, the cause of broken exhaust manifold studs is the heat sheild, get rid of the heat sheild and you won't break any more. I was lucky when I got my pacemakers installed the exhaust guy said he had never done an rb30 and not broken any studs, but when I picked up the car he was amazed that he didn't even break 1 I was relieved.

I'm curious as to how the heat shield makes them snap?

I've never snapped one and I've gone from heat shields to no heat shields. Lots of penetrant and viola.. Too easy.

mine doesnt have the heatshield anymore, it must have been taken off when the extractors were put on before i got it. are they actually beneficial in any way?

Keeps a bit of heat away from the intake ducting. I think there was a post about broken studs a while back if you can be bothered doing a search. I recall telling of my experience with having to get my head machined...

found the thread you said about jetspin helpful information there. would there be any noticable loss in performance?

Its just what the exhaust guy told me about the heat shield making the head and manifold toohot and they get brittle or something like that, My paceys got em on ebay mate $100 they look brand new they wre on this blokes car for 1 month and it was written off. my gain I guess, $100 for the pipes and $100 to get em fitted.
