anyone know how much a cat back would be? and roughly how much kw would it add? maybe people can post what they have done to their vls...cheers
minimal gains unless u do more engine work probably like 5-7kw
i would think $400Ish mark and 2 3/4 inch is best for an N/A 2.5 is good as well but think best gains is with 2 3/4 ring around and get some quotes
My Catback 3" to stainless dump tip was $600 for turbo though. u will loose power if u go too big on N/A

i know u said to get a quote and what not but how much for installsion and what have you done with your cat?
i have looked at high flow cats and their like 200 or a decent one
"Standard" 2.5 inch cat back system. Will add noise and not much else. High flow cat maybe if you find a cheap 2nd hander or yours is damaged. Extractors again not much point more for noise then anything.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
The bigger you go the more power you loose down low but will pickup I'n top end.$300 or so could get a cat back installed
I got quoted $350 fitted from a place near my house for a 2.5 inch I think it was, don't think I asked about 3 inch. You would probably get more power out of a high flow cat by itself

on a stock NA RB30 nothing above a 2 1/4 inch, or you WILL lose power and gain noise. you will not need a high flow cat on an NA rb30 either, that is just spending money you don't have and better spent elsewhere.

did u get urs installed in SA? and yer i want noise cuz my stock one just sounds like crap fair sure its got a hole some where to.
what do you suggest on what i can but to increase power? i was thinking a better throttle body but i wouldnt be able to install it myself can i ask any mechanic install them?
should i be opening another thread for this subject??? thanks
you can do throttle body by your self easy as within 20mins.
i wouldnt bother though......
save your money, service it and convert it to manual if it isnt already
to increase power significantly would be to go turbo!
however that is somewhat expensive, so on a budget I would go extractors + 2 1/4 inch exhaust (with no resinator if you want noise), pod filter (boxed), cold air intake (traditional way on a VL is illegal, as you must cut a hole under your air filter box.)
then an (believe it or not) FORD XF throttle body, then manual or a major trans rebuild or service and then you could start looking at chipping your computer, all of which will increase your kilowatts of power.
ultimately to get the best out of your RB30 is TURBO.

Hmmm....Harry and a VL......didn't he always pop up around school holidays and ask a question then answer it himself and even contradict his own answers?
I think that maybe the legendary HARRY3, you are refering to. with the repeatative posts covering the same topic over and over and over and over again.
one of the most memorable ones which he hasn't posted for a while is about the Vl crossing floodways with the cold air intake and the REAL risk of hydraulic lock of your engine.

yer that wasnt me...anyways unfortunately i can not have a turbo, supercharged or a v8 because of the new SA laws against hoons or some bullcrap :< and yes its already a manual.
I paid i think...$200 to get a bit of 2.5 inch pipe welded from my cat to the tip, using the stock muffler.
Added sound, that was about it.
