I have a VL turbo with a fuel gauge that doesn't work all the time. When it does it only shows less than a quarter even when the tank is full. I wonder if the sender is stuffed?
Does anyone know if the sender in these is one unit with the fuel pump or is it a separate thing by itself?
there are two main causes, the fuel sender in the in-tank pump in the fuel tank, and the contacts behind the dash. Mine works like once a year and i really never worried much about it.. i just use the little trip meter thing and go off the kays.

in my VL the problem is with the gauge, tapping on it gets it working sometimes
if you look at the above photo, whats on the bottom of the internal pump is the filter bag, these come in different shapes in the different brands of internal pumps, you need to look at the bag on old pump because if your new bag is a different shape or length it can hit the side of the swirl pot, stopping the pump sitting down in the swirlpot
if not sitting down, the tank now makes loud swirling noises and the car runs out of petrol sooner
Every vl i have ever owned has bloody done this, a few taps on the dash and it works, then stops.... repeat.
