Hi guys, a 1986 automatic VL commodore issue as above.
I go to start ignition....
1st turn: not much happens, almost dead
2nd turn: starts to tick/click a few times at dashboard
3rd turn: same again, and engine starts to kick but fails to start
4th turn: same pattern but this time its success, the engine starts
# this is consistent every time
# im certain the battery is fine, its relatively new
# i have disconnected the stereo, thinking it took too much juice, but this didnt help
Yesterday i searched every electrical wire & connection point looking for faults, ensured all was secured/clean.
Still this didn't help.
Next issue is when driving and pulling up to a corner, or pulling up to lights at an intersection, the idle strength is poor as u see the dashboard battery lamp come on dim and gets brighter after 5/6 seconds then stalls.
any ideas lads????
Ignition is failing.......possible
as well as stalling problems could either be your AFM is starting to fail,,..
Oddly left the ignition on for 5 mins then bang it started first turn.
Earlier i let the car idle without the air control meter lead attached. The idle quality was poorer but it was able to hold idle.
yeah if car idles with the AFM unplugged its shagged
put a multimeter on Volts and on your battery with car running. should have 14.2 V while running meaning your alternator is good
Hey lads,
yeah so if the afm lead is it should shutdown yeah? Not keep running.
I had read of manual & says could possibly be air leakage somewhere.
Im certain the oxygen sensor is trashed, half melted & red wire has about 1 thread of copper left. But its always been this way.
What is that adjustment screw on side of afm for? Is there a easy setting for that?
Imagine when u turn the key the whole dash board rapidly flickers and clicks 5 or 6 times like its being zapped. I mean what the geeze would be doin that
the adjustment screw should not be touched unless ur confident and can use a multimeter.. there is a how too in my sig... its for the air/fuel mix ratio
and fix that wire up on the oxy sensor if u can
