Talking highly worked VL - Sorry but another diff question

    Hi Guys an Gals,

before you tell me to search the forum please let me say that I have spent the last hour doing that, and whilst I have found some direction for my question, I want to spell out my setup and get some advice off some of you old hands if that's ok

I have just finished a 2 year project about 6 months ago... factory 88 VL black 304 motor Carby.. pulled the engine out and did the following:

Stripped back to block - acid cleaned crack tested etc and bored to 30thou
VN heads, shaved and machined HEAVILY ported
    Harrop High Rise Manifold
    Holley 750 carby
    ACL Hypotenic race series pistons
    X-Rods out of the A9X
All the beautiful top of the line studs, roller rockers etc that you do when spending alot of money on an engine(We did it propoerly)
Converted from Auto to Manual and put in a Borg Warner T5G(Fine spline) Which if memory serves me correct has 35 splines (Someone maybe able to correct me if I am out by 1 or 2 splines) all I remember is we had to fiddle a little bit to get it to work.
Crane 286 Race Cam (Not very efficient but this was my request as I wanted something that was so loud my neighbours would hate me and evryone else would stop and stare from a couple o hundred metres away)

    Compression is 11:3:1

Standard stroke, which makes 474HP at the rears.

So.... when we did the engine rebuild my mechanic advised me to take it easy for a while until I got used to it (Which I am well and truly) and not drop the clutch or launch sideways around a corner unless I want to blow my diff... he said down the track (Which is roughly now) we will put a 9inch in it with maybe 4:11 gears.. and then I can do what i want... i.e. Quarter Mile, occasional burnout etc

Currently the thing is a bit of a slug under 2500 RPM, but once i get over that she is pretty wild and just launches at a frantic pace..

    Question:

Do I really need to go a 9 inch conversion (i.e. am I right in that this would be the best long term option) or is there another option i.e. just changing the axles etc..

What I want is to have it be a demon off the mark, be able to plant my foot and have an insane amount of wheel spin. Fuel economy is not really a concern as it is only a weekender, and when we go on a day trip I have 5th gear for motorways anyway... And since I currently only get around 150kms out of a tank of 98, I am not too worried about economy

Any advice from old hands and experienced heads is well and truly appreciated in advance.

    Thanks folks.

The torque is going to be your main issue, as some VLT's are making similar power to yours using standard VLT diffs.

I would go the 9inch myself.
