Default Lack of top end power? RB30 N/A manual

so i have noticed for a while now that i dont have as much power as i would say medium revs (havnt got a rev meter) or its about the same as high revs not much pick up at all. are all vl's like this or have i got a problem with injectors or the fuel pump or something?

Has it always been like this or has this just happened? It sounds like a normal stock N/A VL commodore to me!

I sure as hell hear mine, it's a brand new one and it whines more than a wife after 10 years of marriage!

But yeah I have an auto NA and mine has no top end balls. My bro has a 2.0L 6 cyl BMW and off the lights I smoke him but if we're going, say, 60km/h, and we both plant it, his leaves me eating rubber

One word of advice, don't ever knock out a cats internals.
Don't be a tight ass just buy a new one and you will never have to worry about getting fined and what not, I think the fine can be up to 10 or 20 thousand dollars!!

There not that expensive a couple of hundred if that, even a second hand one that decent will do for a while.

I only paid $200 for a hi flow cat for my Silvia, actually I think it was a bit cheaper.

I've only owned my VL for a couple of months but I love it to bits, as long as it doesn't fall to bits :P

Stock N/A RB30's have very poor top end, but compensate by having awesome usable midrange. Do some work or deal with it

nope u will c minimal gains with a cam on a n/a then u will get used to it and think u have lost power again...

running rich wont melt the cat but it will be sooty exhaust and eventually block the small pores of the inners of the cat. hense blocking it up

set ur timing to 15degrees (factory)

get a 5 spd manual and a good exhaust...

then possibly advance timing and run 98 fuel..

ive had 2 vls 11 years now with vls(all i have had)... me personally the shape of the vl is the best... smart looking car once all done up...

have great strong motors and turbo kits readily available to spice it up and see noticeable amount of performance...

That's what got me onto them, I love the shape of them, especially the lip on the boot. These cars just need a new paint job and they look 1000 times better haha, hell, if I dropped mine and resprayed it, no one would know, just from looking, that it's pretty much stock inside.

there are four bolts holding your cat on, remove them and drop your cat out (it is an easy job) hold your cat up to the sun and look through the other end, you should be able to see a bit of light, if you can't see light it is blocked. if the honey comb is brocken or missing , replace your cat with a good secondhand one or an aftermarket one for about $180 install it yourself with 2 new gaskets or pay about $85 for labour, genuine are EXPENSIVE.
cams are a waste of money on a stock NA
I have owned 2 vl's for driving 1 sedan now wagon in 9yrs, I have owned 7 more for stripping repairing and selling. my car before was a VK, needless to say I am never going back.

I've owned around 11-12 vls over the past 10 years. There's nothing you can really do to make it go all that better really its a n/a you'll have to drop an 8 in it or turbo.

I sold it about 3 months ago or near abouts. Your best bet is to just save your $$$$ and spend money on an ls1 or turbo setup once your able to.

Yeah, a NA RB30 isn't worth the effort past an exhaust, turbo setups are about 1100ish from memory for a stock setup. A 304 would be alright as well because the VLs being light its a good combination.
