Default a few cold air intake questions...

this is refering to a home made CAI eg; EASY $30 DIY Cold Air Induction!
first question is has anyone actually got cought out on this mod by cops be4 because i have noticed alot of people do this and its been around for quite some time now just thought cops would of picked up on this??
second question people are so worried about getting water up in the filter leading to the engine dunno if this is stupid but why not just have a simple screw on cap just where the pipeing starts just under the filter i know it would be some hassle doing this when you think a day will have some heavy rain but since people seem so concerned why not i know i would just keep the cap on during the day or two.
and last question i know alot of people ask this but any gains noticed with this mod and what other mods have been done to your car if you noticed any changes? thanks and sorry for another one of my random threads.

Nothing illegal with this mod AFAIK.
I had done a similar one to my VL years ago by using spare factory induction pieces ie elbow hose, box connector etc. and just finished it off in open to the wheel arch instead of punching it thry the front apron.

go for it man...the water bits aload of crap? do you drive thru dam's and creeks?? i know i dont.. if i seen water 1 foot deep i'd turn around and go the other way..
they do make a difference in power, it prob wont make it pop mono's but it dose help....

i've gotten around every day for 4 years with one on my car with no issuses at all, no water, no excessive dirt, no hassles from cop's..

haha yer and im not to keen on cutting a hole in my car but ill c how it goes.
i dont think ill be crossing any creeks but it does get pretty wet up here in the adelaide hills and roads tent to get flooded but plenty of back roads to work around that.
after having alook under the bonnet today to disconnect my battery i found some sort of well i wouldnt say CAI and im sure this is from factory since every single thing on my car is stock but i took some pictures anyways since inside the air box kinda looked like a home job. just wondering if every vl has this.......

That's the basic air intake. Pull snorkel out make the hole bigger = winner winner chicken dinner.

i would not drive through a flood to submerge the pipe.. only rain and so forth its fine.

u drunk bow>>? i found it hard to decipher that lols..

heaps of ppl have it and i have not heard anybody having probs....

i dont have it in my current L.

POD = POO unless its got a Cold air feed/boxed as all pods do is suck warm engine bay air...

So what are you to do when driving across country nsw with a gay vacuum cleaner hose for a cai and you realise shit it's flooded out on the plains? Turn around and go home?if your worried about hot air with a pod connect your a/c up to pod filter that should fix that

If I had that gay cai and it did happen to blow my engine I wouldn't go making threads about it as I would be so ashamed.

That's why you have never Hurd about it before lol

wouldn't drive through floods without it either...

... but ppl would say dont do it caus XXXX happened to me... yada yada.. hopefully to advise against it.. :P

or u hear a story along the lines of (like always)

"my mates - cousins - mates - fathers- brother knew a fella whose wife's best friends nephew which it happened to and got hydraulic lock and smashed the motor so i wouldn't do it"

doing this will c minimal - NO gains anyways.

    each to their own

cops will not see it as its hidden unless they have a gawk under your bar. cutting the body to feed the pipe is illegal anyways.

but we are all full of defects anyways..
    Meh

    /end rant

so my best bet is just to take the snorkle out and cut the hole bigger??? does having the snorkle make any difference to the air temperature would of thought the air behind the light would be a little cooler but yer any suggestions???

Let me know how you go when you try claim insurance and they find a big hole in that panel and the cai. Cheap and easy way yes cut the hole bigger. The amount of air rushing in will be cool because of the area it's in.

i ended up just taking the snorkel out then later on that day i made the hole bigger by about 30% when taking the snorkel out i did feel a bit of a difference with the acceleration and it did feel like it had a little bit more top end power hardley noticable most thing i noticed was the car sounded alot smoother but yer im not complaining lol
