lets cut an embarrising story short... one morning a cigarette fell down my A/C vent....
so i fix the A/C the other day turn it on and what do ya know, face full of ash!
gonna pull out the dash, now ive done this when i worked at ford... yes i was an evil little man... but is there any tips you guys can suggest... i know about the console bolt on the drivers side which always snaps, most often when people replace the head deck, anything else to be careful of or usually pretty simple job!? or is there another way of getting the cigarette butt out?!
thanks guys!
plastic parts may be brittle and break easily so be careful
I'd be more inclined to leave it in there. A fair bit of work for it.
Start at the bottom and work your way up. Thats about all I can say.. Plastic parts break and you'll end up with more screws then you started with - and it will never be the same again.
true thanks guys... i guess it can wait till i have a weekend where i have nothing to do.
what do you guys reckon about custom dashes similar to gary myers mazda 626 dash in his ford mustang
possible?
Definately possible, just don't begin until your confident with fibreglass and reinforcements etc. And I don't think it'd be too cheap to mod alot of things. Maybe not entirely worth it in the end too.
dude wat side did the butt fall in the left center or right hand side...
cos um as u kno im working down near the ATI n yer the vent hole for the RHS is right tere n is easly on n off i have to put mine on cos its off right now but no fuss
Mate what vent did it go down? if you can get under the dash you should be able to pull the tubing apart and find it that way without gutting the whole dash. i have done that when my grille was off and the fan grabbed a heap of leaves.
the other option is to block the other vents (elec tape works well) , give the heater a blast on high setting adn hope it comes up the vent. grab it with some tweezers.
failing that if its not really a problem leave it there and call it a hidden friend.
it fell down the vent at the top of the dash... at the window.... good ideas guys thanks.
still toying with that custom dash idea though it would look pretty trick!
bloody oath it would. if you go ahead make sure you keep the digi photos up. sounds like something different to watch a build of.
im trying to imagine how the ciggy got there... hand on top of the steering wheel, nice slope to teh vl top dash plastic, ciggy drops, good roll and bump - straight down the demister vent? close??
almost spot on... im not sure if your familiar with sydney weather but its been weird lately.... one day rainy one day hot!! well it rained on the way to work one morning...
i have these nice set of, really tight (30 - 40km/h tops) curves near my house!! and i know damn well what vl's go like in the wet which is why i was talking these corners easy but accelarated out maybe a little too much (i cant help myself) and i think it was somewhere between correction and selecting 3rd that the ciggy flew out of my hand and sat on the dash... staring at me... before i could grab it the prick rolled straight into the vent and sat and smoked itself in there for about 20 minutes!!!
ok the dash idea... im starting a new thread
Shit something tells me your lucky you didnt end up with a toasted car!
You should have poured the coffee (the one in your other hand) down the vent after it to douse and potential fires.
nah i used mount franklin at the first available servo pourd it down the vents... two bottle for $3 cant go wrong... might start stoking up for bush fire season!!!
