VL brakepads have a wire clip on the top that doesnt connect with anything, looks like its there to rub on the rotor when the pads are worn down to make a noise, warning that the pads need replacing
cant find any mention of this in the handbook or a workshop manual, if so how loud is the noise?
I'm trying to think of the clip that your talking about? Could you get a picture.
I'm fairly sure its not for that reason though.
that is a wear indicator. the noise is like a RINGING, whining noise. i dont think they had them on the original brake pads so theres prolly no mention of them in the manual. if this is the case they must have started putting them on pads in the 90's, im guessing anyways.
all mazda pads have this wear indicator (this is where i work )
no idea... brought new break pads other day and dont know what your talking about!
theres like a sort of spring up the topthat just sits there i dunno if its ment to squeal or anything.. i thought it was there to put pressure on something... oh well..
I CANT WALK ON WATER BUT I CAN STUMBLE ON ALCOHOL
but i thought it was normal for VL brakes to squeal![]()
i am pretty sure that the spring is there to stop the pads rattling when the brakes are off. had a problem with my vg ute, slight rattling noise was coming from drivers back brakes, found out the spring had lost tension and was rattling in the caliper.
I'm still trying to get an idea of what these springs look like. Are they on the actual brake pad? I'll have to have a look as I can't remember it at all.. Vaguely remember seeing a metal clip on the pads themselves.. But yeah, I'm still standing by that they're not there to make a squeak.
there should be a little lug on the outside centre of the pad. attached to this should be a spring usually made out of wound wire which extends out to each end of the pad. this presses against the inside of the caliper to stop the pad flopping about when the brakes are off. I am not saying there is no such thing as squealer pads, because toyota use them alot, it's just in this instance, they sound like the anti-rattle springs.
yeah my old pads had these. and a friends VK had them as well. just a little wire that you would hear quite easily when the pads were on their last legs.
the new ones i used didnt have them.
when the pads wear down the metal rubs against the rotor to let u know its time for replacement.
