Also on this topic, I'm hunting the same parts for my sedan for an auto to manual conv. What parts do you need to do one?

Sorry for asking in your thread VL2env

87RB30VL , basically to do the conversion you need Gearbox including clutch and flywheel, pedal box, tailshaft, and the interior centre bit then everything needs to be aligned it can be kind of a hassel if your doing it yourself in your drive way, i did mine a few months ago but at work, up on the hoist. Pretty time consuming.

VL2env, Hey mate there is quite a few of them going on Ebay, just have a search and normally include a re-conditioned Gearbox, its always good to have a spare box, hahaha.

there is a really good "how to" on here somewhere.
also OP I am sure you are aware wagon and sedan are the exact same parts as far as running gear. you specified wagon in the thread title.

i think the wagon has a different size tailshaft, maybe they are the same from auto to manual though like the sedans. for an auto to manual conversion you will need - manual flywheel, manual starter motor, clutch and pressure plate, clutch reservoir, , inspection plate, manual pedal box, the plate that goes in your car around the gear shifter, i think you also need the brackets that sit at the bottom of of engine that bolts to the bell housing. that's about all i remember. I also remember when i changed mine from auto to manual the spigot bush wouldn't fit and i had to get it machined.

Best idea imo is to find a car that is already a 5 speed and use it for your conversion that way you know you should have all the pieces

You don't need a "MAGIC" manual starter motor the auto one does the same job!

Don't forget to bridge the neutral safety switch either.

It's a piss easy conversion I've done it a few times. Just a tip for the pedals I found it quicker to remove the steering column to make it easier to get pedals in but that's just the way I done it.

Good luck. Oh yeah wagon has a difrenrt tailshaft to sedan to

My bad, you don't need to change starters for VLs like you do with a VS.

wrong! tailshaft wagon and sedan are the same (upto VN), auto and manual are different.
starter motor is the same, spigot bearing needs to be replaced.

edit; my wagon has a sedan tailshaft in it.

I never changed my tailshaft when i converted my old VL and i had to get the spigot bush machined because it was too big. I'm just telling the guys what i had to do.

no offense implied no offence taken mate, supplied info should be accurate.
I am pretty sure if you have done this conversion on a VL previously you would have had to change the tailshaft or at least the yoke,
auto and manual tailshaft are different. I am happy to be proven WRONG!

to my understanding the teeth inside the YOKE and gearbox are different. auto and manual.
87RB30VL you can use a variety of boxes BUT modification is needed.

I did this conversion nearly 10 years ago when i was on my L's, i bought a 5 speed (whole car) for parts and it had no tailshaft. I had no problems at all with the tailshaft fitting straight in. Doing a bit of a google search it looks like some people said their's bolted up and some didn't. Have you ever actually tried to use an auto tailshaft? im curious now, maybe there is more then 1 type or something.
