hey guys sorry this is long but i was playing with a few ideas which became good ideas that might just work
what got me thinking about dashes isnt just gary myers awesome stang but i used to have a 97 model mazda 323 sedan (before some drunk driver wrote it off... also on the way to work.... maybe i should quit my job!!) and the interior was buetiful so was the car actually
but i got seduced by the power option and went for a vl turbo... but the dash and feel of those awesome standard bucket seats in the mazda just wont go away and because of the dimensions of the astina sedan being roughly around the same size of the vl i started thinking maybe i could have the vl's awesome looks and power along with mazda comfort???
Speedo cable, fuel sender, dash warning lights, rev taco this should all be transferrable. Nothings impossible, right?
i have a few more things to buy for the vl first... the engine has just been finished and most of the body kit is on. i need to find the aero door panels and then after i purchase those and maybe get the whole car sprayed ill be looking a lot closer into the dash idea.. im aiming to be able to finance it by sometime closer towards december probably febuary after i recover from christmas but it really depends on how much people write of their mazda astinas and how cheap i can grab a dash for i suppose!!
Nothing is impossible but that one will be *very* difficult. I once installed a UC Torana dash into a LX which was way more work than I thought considering they were almost identical platforms. Making a dash work in a car which is completely different would be a massive undertaking. I'd probably get a VL shell or front cut to have a practise on first to work out how you will support it first. Getting the "look" right is the hardest bit - the wiring is comparitively easy.Originally Posted by SNY.3LT

you can definatly do that sorta thing though....i have seen a few that put a complete vs interior into a vl......nothing is impossible as long as you have the money and the time!!!!
Click the scales.....you know you want to!!!!
well i got the time anyway!!
it seems like the problems would lie in making it look decent against the window and obviously size but i think getting a halfcut to practice on sounds pretty good at least that way i can line everything up and get it right before i drop it in.
how much does a VL half cut usually go for i was thinking maybe somewhere around the $500 mark would be a decent starting price to have and with a mate that does motor triming i can get the dash wrapped in leather relatively cheap, case of beer!!... its buying the leather where it hurts!!
ill keep looking in to it and hopefully figure out where ill go with this soon
keep the ideas coming guys top stuff!
Leather isn't that expensive, for what you want...... most colors are available, you would be chasing what they call a "Split"......an even layer of colored leather with one, or both sides(suede) shaved.......go to the suppliers, not a craft shop...if you like, measure up how much you want, and I will ring around...I have a few contacts on the leather industry....here in Briss......![]()

thanks man ill get back to you guys when i can finance this idea, it shouldnt be too far along down the road... couple of months maybe and a whole pile of research!
you can usually pick up a whole vl for $500.....it doesnt need to be in good condition and you'll end up with heaps of spares.....so i'm guessing that a halfcut would be less than $500!!!!!!
