Ok so I was sitting at a set of lights the other day & my VL just stalled on me randomly, so I stuck it in P and started her up again & all was sweet.
On the way home this arvo, my car started losing power as I was pushing the accellerator, and eventually stalled & wouldn't rolling start in Neutral.
I pull over, and I SWEAR my engine bay smelled like rotten eggs lol, but it eventually started and was fine all the way home. It was idling at just under 1000, and I had bout 1/4 tank of fuel, and new oil cos it had just been serviced so i'm stumped!
Think it could be the torque converter solenoid? Or even the TC itself.

mite be a cas problem or fuel pump
Usually the fuel pump on the VL that does that.
Also just check the connections on the air flow meter, make sure they are all nice and tight.
I guess, out of those 2, I'd be leaning towards the cas since I got a brand new fuel pump done not too long ago, though I might get my mechanic to have a look anyway. Cheers guys.

i had a similar problem to this in my old auto VL, would just stop all of a sudden when i was driving then 10 or 15 minutes later it would start up fine and drive. turned out to be the crank angle sensor.
Yeah just did a quick google search for CAS problems and heaps of people were saying it's due to CAS. Anyone know what kinds of shops sell new ones? Rekon like, Repco or Rare Spares has them? Also, do you need to change some sort of bearing too or can you leave that?

Should be able to pick one up from repco for sure, maybe a little expensive there though
Yeah just checked their online store, but as with the majority of onlines stores it came up blank but I'll ring them tomorrow. There's one here on eBay for $77 [$65 + 12 p/h] brand new I dunno what's a good price and what isn't for a new one though:

thats clearly a CAS problem u have or plug.
i have this intermittent problem atm but its the CAS plug i gotta change over.. no biggie..
mine starts to miss/fart then stall. i can smell a strong fuel smell, i know exactly what it is.
so i pull the plug, bit of inox on the plug. the spade connectors have opened up a little. so i close em over a bit for a tighter connection.
my cooler piping is knocking on it. :P
all is well, away i drive and it will last about a week, then it will do it again
goodluck man try the plug first
Yeah my car was like, how can I put it, you know when you're in a car that has a manual choke, and you start her, and try to accellerate straight away and it just loses power and eventually stalls? That's what it was doing when I was driving. Also, when idling at light etc, if I press the accellerator hard & fast in a quick jab, it sputters for a second then revs up.
I'll try the plug & see how I go from there. any tell-tale signs of it going or just give it a spray with innox and hope for the best?

don't shop repco!
$80 for a KIT (sensor + bearing) is about right
follow NATH's guide in his sig, it is an easy job.
Nobody wants to play with me
I guess I'll just wait till friday when I get paid and buy this one off eBay, cheers guys!

dont limp it along with inox as such man, just try some on the plug to see if its a plug problem or a CAS itself problem. i would lean more towards to the CAS itself, but could be a dodge plug. pull back the rubber boot on the plug and check for corrosion on the crimped wire/spade connectors. as well as have a look into the plug and check that the connectors have not opened up thus making a bad connection on the CAS pins..
just try and isolate the problem. CAS or Plug. member the loom and plugs are going on 25 years now
Ah true, hopefully it isn't corroded away, though knowing my luck it's probably f-cked -_-;
The plug is on the back/side of the dizzy isn't it?

yeah facing up right near your rocker cover 4 pin plug(dizzy)
Hmm innox didn't do much to help, the plug looked in good condition but she died on the way to work so I had to go home. Rung repco for shits & giggles and they want $200 for the CAS W/ bearing lolololol I'll just buy the eBay one for like $76.

that looks spot on, I have dealt with parts den before and never had any problems.
Nobody wants to play with me
Ok so just got the CAS swapped for a brand new one but didn't do the bearing cos' my mechanic was closing shop & he would have had to take it to another shop to get pressed out, and it took aaaages cos all the screws were super tight for some reason, but I might get the bearing swapped over for the new one just incase, or can you shove something in there to pop it out and replace it at home? As for the timing, my mechanic just made some marks to get it back to stock, though it could do with a tune I guess.
So yeah what I was on here for was if your engine is pinging, you'd know right? Something similar to ball bearings in a blender when you rev at around 3000rpm? Cos' my mechanic said if the timing was really dodgy, it'd ping, but on the way home I gave it a bit of a boot and it sounded normal to me.
Also my stock temp gauge in the dash doesn't work now lol so maybe he knocked something?
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
|8|7|R|B|3|0|V|L|
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
yeah man. make sure the timing is on 15degrees.. u should have done it yourself its easy man....(In my sig is a Tutorial)
and for your temp gauge look on the bottom coolant bleed bolt. next to this is the CTS (coolant Temp Sensor) next to this is 1 wire to another sensor
this is your Gauge signal wire.

Ah around that area is a wire (Green I think with a black plastic end) that is just hanging there, I shall have to see where it plugs into but it looks like the black plug on the end it broken a bit as it slipped off when I was looking at the wire![]()
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
|8|7|R|B|3|0|V|L|
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
yeah well it slips on horizontally onto the sensor. top of sensor is a thin round head which the plug slides on
How's that look? So the plug just sort of, slides onto the sensor like I did in the pic? Maybe that's why I thought it was broken lol, it just looked wierd but slid on pretty well.
